    Yamaha IT425

I may have the chance to pick up an '80 IT425G, but before I jump in I'd like to hear some opinions if anyone has had experience with them. Good? Bad? Was the 425 engine junk, and as a result only had a year of production before they went to the 465?

If the price is reasonable I would bag it! Although,,it sounds like you're gonna ride it?? It's gotta have some value as a collector piece I would hope.
Please help those who cannot help themselves.

I had an IT175. The motor ran great and it had some good power but it handled like a Buick station wagon with four flat tires. I was never big into dirt bikes though (go figure) so maybe it was just that I'm a cruddy rider.

If the price is right I'd jump all over it and a vingage racing I'd go! (AHRMA) I have done some vintage racing in my day and its really low key and TONS of fun. Sure you will see the 84 Husky 400's that will eat that poor IT alive (as would my 82 Husky... but I'm biased) but it's all about fun. Also, depending on the race it may be in the Grand Prix class in stead of the Ultima class. Another However.... Lots of those guys are just there to play around and they go kinda slow. It will always be the rider not the bike in vintage racing. I remember this guy on an early 80's "zuki PE 175 (those things were dogs) and he knew how to ride it and was at the front of the race every time! Vintage racing is pretty big so there are places to go race it. Check out AHRMA's website.

I'm waiting for some pictures of it. I know I really don't need it, but...it's hard to pass up. I had an IT250 about 10 years ago, and it was a blast. I'd like to do more woods riding nowdays, so this IT would fit the bill nicely. Guess it's time to liquidate a few third-tier projects to make room.

Story on my life... er.... garage. You'd be amazed how fast you can make them. There is a big market in vintsge rscinf so suspension upgrades are a snap. You'd also be surprised how many tracks run a "Bomber" class. I lovegoing out on my '82 and bwating modern bikes..... They hate that!

Almost 2 months later, hope you got a good deal since it has apparently been sitting around for a while without any buyers. Love the bike though. My first bike was a DT175, love them old Yamahas, wish I had an IT, have ridden the IT200 before but never the big thumper.

Well, to be fair, it wasn't really "on the market," so I told him there wasn't a rush. Besides, it was buried behind a whole bunch of stuff in that garage. He has a pretty sweet '79 YZ400, too.
