    atc 110... motor swap possibilities?

hello. Picked up an atc 110 roller today and I was wondering what engines will fit and what will take some work to make it fit. I know the chinese engines are mostly a crf 50/70 engine mount pattern, but are the mounts for a 110 that far off? I would love to use a Lifan 140 e-start engine, as they're plentiful and have plenty of kick. Are the engine mounts on the 110 frame close to the mounts on the 50/70 engine? Anyone with experience on swapping these engines into a 110 chassis, please speak up. And please, ONLY HELPFUL POSTS. Nobody needs to see posts that say "why do that" or " that's a bad idea".

Hello. Did some measurements on a Crf 50 engine and my 110 chassis and I notice foremost that the spacing between the rear engine mount bosses on the chassis is that they are an inch longer than the 50 mounts. The Lifan engines with the KLX type top end have no provisions for the front engine mount. I've seen others with no front mount being rode around, but all there is left is two bolts in the rear to hold the engine in place. May be sketchy, I dunno. There are other I think the front mount/rocker cover can be fitted on the other,honda-head type engines. Anyways, it can't be that hard to install a Lifan as long as you are able to do some wrenching and measure everything twenty times.

DrATV sells an adapter that will let you mount a lifan in a 110

You'd still need to figure out a head mount

thanks tblumer for the link. saved us some headaches. I wonder if the lifans with the honda-type top end can have the rocker cover swapped out with 110's cover. Bolt pattern the same? I know lifans are usually longer engines than honda's, but are they too long to modify a stock head mount bracket to fit? So many questions, I know. I'm asking in case anyones already done this swap and can avail us with their wisdom. Thank you

There was that Gpx177 engine swap into a 90/110 but the pics are all taken down. I don't thing a rocker cover swap will work but I'll check it against a 140 lifan that I have.

    Update:
Okay the 90/110 has a lot bigger stud spacing than the 140

One thing Ill throw out there if you go for a 125m swap, I'm pretty sure they changed the engine on those for the last two years (86-87) the engine on those had the cylinder going straight up and down, like a 200s. Where as say, an 84 or 85 has a horizontal piston that faces straight out from the trike, just like on a an atc 90. Not sure if that made sense but you can see the different year's engine style in the pics.

any of the lifans you ooked at have drive sprocket on right side? i was looking at same ones and was figuring i could flip rear axle carrier around so sprocket was on left side. the
dr atv adapter im going to use for rear and still thinking of a head mount. i was thinking i am going to cut up some metal and mark where i want it welded and take it to a friend to weld then bolt to frame. but did you think of the left side drive thing?

I don't know what trike you're doing this to, but go on ebay and you should see plenty of Lifans with left-side drive. I don't know where you saw a right-side drive engine, but most Lifans 110-140cc I've seen are left-side only. It's much simpler to swap one of these than a right side drive engine. Maybe you're looking at an engine with a CVT attached? As for the front head mount, why not make some heavy duty steel straps like the DR atv kit does for the rear? A way i've thought about doing it is to mount the straps to the engine by bolting them to the cam cover studs, then up the stock frame mounts. I know that's a very basic description, but look at the Dr Atv kit and imagine one like it for the front. As far as the 125M engines go, I know they switched engines from lay-down to upright positioning in 86, I was talking about 84-85 engines for the swap. I myself am split on the engine choice, whether or not to pick up a complete 110 engine nearby that may need work or to save for a Lifan. Lifan would be brand new and more power, the 110 engine is original and the correct year and everything for my 110 chassis. Suggestions?

Yeah, the lifans have left side output. I have a 140 in my pit bike and a yx150 in my atc70, both left side drive.
