Riding on a bent axle...

So im sure its not the best thing for your bearings or carrier if you ride on a bent axle, but tommorow im goin riding I hoenstly dont care at this point. So pissed off at "atv" shops telling me "your better off buying a new one" or my fav "I have a few 85 200xs u can pull the axles out of" ((like come on now learn your bikes" and finaly I found a shop that can straighten it and he wants 75$ to do it. No way in hell im paying that much money for something that can "bend again,easyer" "I also cant get the axle out so i took in the whole swingarm with the axle in it and he said it would be 200$ for them to pull the axle out of the swingarm then straighten it. WTF is wrong with people... SO hopefully I can save up money and do a 300ex rear end conversion. But does anyone ride their stuff with a bent axle?? cause I am, I got a new GoPro camera and it must be used.... Tired of not beeing able to ride. My parents think its a waste of money and dont help fix this . 16 (17 in 9 days) with no job and a hobby like this.... ITS RUFF!!

The prices you were quoted for the repair are not out of this world.... Whats the going rate for regular shop service at an ATV shop these days?? Somewhere in the ballpark of $60 per hour I think? A machine shop that can straighten the axle will have higher hourly rates. Machinists have ALOT more time/money invested in learning the trade and equipping their shop. Stop insulting the professionals who can and will do the work you are unable to do for yourself! They have to make a living.

Riding temporarily with a little bit of wobble probably won't hurt anything. But if it's wobbling bad, I would park it till you can fix it properly.

I cant get the damn axle nut off.... I got it off about a year ago when I replaced the rear bearings, but its like siezed up now, a pipe wrench with a cheater bar and it just slips... I dont think you can kill this 2nd gen, ((knock on wood)) its taken beatens!!!

In my experience, I have never had an axle nut that wouldn't loosen, and never had to use a pipe wrench with a cheater. Plus, stock Honda axle locks are notorious for loosening on their own anyway. I don't see how it could seize that severely if you just had it apart a year ago. You sure you are turning it the right way??

Both my first gen 200x have bent axles. Just slightly - enough to feel it on pavement but I don't even notice it in the sand. I have no intention of fixing them because they are know to be easy benders.

Same direction. The outer (larger) nut pushes against the splined, threaded hub to preload the axle bearings. The thin nut locks the outer nut in place. Loosen the inside nut and spin it inward toward the brake bub. Then turn the outer nut inward toward the brake hub as well. This will expose the collar and snap ring on the axle, outside the splined nut hub that the outer nut pushes against to preload the bearings. Slide the collar inward, remove the snap ring on the axle (it rides in a groove on the axle), then you can slide the collar and axle lock assembly off the axle.

If you took it off last year, you should have greased it up for future removal.

75$ to unbend an axle isn't that high, could take them a couple hours if they wanted it dead nuts. Many times both sides are bent so if it's out, I do both.

For all they knew it would take a couple hours to get that axle out without ruining your parts.

I can usually do them with shipping for about 60$. I know you asked me and I just don't have the time.

well honestly it aint bent that bad, the guy even told me "it aint bent as bad as I though" so I guess im just going to limp it for a while, in the dirt its hardly noticable...

There is nothing wrong with riding with a minor bend. Will not harm your bearings in anyway so long as your axle nuts are good and snug.
If its noticeable on dirt, or snow, at low speeds, you have a problem and should fix it.
My X has a bent axle, but it isn't bad. Only noticeable going about 90 k /h

Your choice, spend good money to have it fixed or ride it like is. If it's not enough to notice really then it's not going to hurt the bike any more than you already have.
