250 es big red vs. 250 sx

What are the mechanical differences between a 1985 250 big red and a 1985 250sx. I am trying to decide which one to purchase. They both have the same engines, driveshafts, transmission. The SX looks sporty, no racks. Are there any other differences mechanically?

I think you'll find the SX diff ratio is higher, ie slightly faster.
    Don't know beyond that.

They are both full suspension, shaft drive, electric start, reverse, oh yeah and awesome!!! Never mind what is different about them..truth is you should own both. Many here will agree..

I own both and still want another. So I watch the local CL and when I see one come up I'll get it. It will double your chances of finding the machine you want.

Once you own them both you can figure out what is different about them yourself!!!

It's fun to look at the orig sales brochures on the home page here.
    They should list the specs.

The biggest difference for us is that 2 sx's fit in the truck.
Big reds look noticably bigger when parked next to each other but the
specs and wheelbase / stance numbers are not that much different.

IMO with some wheel spacers, they'd almost be the same
    for farm chores.

The gearing may be different but the tires are also a different diameter.
and easier to change than gearing.

Can you get the search key to work?
This is a real popular topic.

Both is the best choice since they quit making them.
You'll see nice ones around 1,000 (give or take 2-300) and then, out of the blue, you'll
see one pop up with a flat tire, needs a battery, ripped seat but in great running shape
    for a few hundred.

I have both and as stated - each are unique. Essentially both are the same but serve diff. purposes. The sx is a work horse but geared more for fun. The big red is strickly business. However both are awesome trikes and I think that if you have the means, own both!

I can't believe people are still asking this question. There is a search feature, and google for a reason. This must be the 100000th thread on this topic.

^ Well, the board does get a bit boring at times........

The transmissions DO have different gears but overall you will merely notice the ES to be a bit slower, yet with more torque. It is more of a workhorse and hs limited front suspension. They also have completely different frames.

Both great machines, I just kept bending swingarms and my SX is now in the basement until I die.
