Anyone ever owned or ride a Ski-Doo Safari 377? PICS ADDED

I just got 1 in real nice shape for $200, it runs good too. Just wondering if they are a good trail sled, and how fast or slow they are??

    Thanks Matt

Good score! I own one. 88 Safari 377, been in the family since new. Very Dependable. Good low end torque. I acually rode mine as a trail sled before I bought my Formula. It rides fairly well. Unfortunatly my little cousin was permitted to ride it late last season...crash...to make a long story short it needs a bellypan and a hood and the skis realigned :? Anyway It could pull the front skis off the ground and they are really good in powder. Tops out at around 55 and sometimes a few mph more if conditions are perfect.I have a manual for it, if you need anything let me know. I'm pretty sure that they were mostly the same from 84-88. later

I think they are the same. Me and my buddy went in on 3 of them, 85,87, and 88. We got the 3 for $800. He took the 87 turn key ready for $500. I got the 85 that the guy said didnt run (I had it running in less than an hour) for $200, it has a new track and ski's. And the 88 with a toasted motor for $100. All are in very nice shape, no cracks in the cowls, good belly pans, good seats, windsheilds are nice, good tunnels.

Only problem with my 85 is one side has 135# of compression and the other has 90#. It will start and run, but once it gets hot and you shut it down it dont wanna start untill it cools off. Needs a refresh.

PowerTrike.... Do you wanna sell the motor out of yours for my 88?

LOL I was hoping to ask you if you would sell the plastic off your 88. Um I guess I plan on probably fixing the machine since the rest of it is damn near mint (900 somthing actual miles). If I was local I would give ya double your money on it. The black one you got actually looks pretty sharp. I have the yellow.

    re: 377

I've had 2 safari's over the years, one was a 88 or 89, it had a 377, the other was a 91 and it had a 447, both where very quick(the 377 did about 60-65,the 447 did 75+) I currently own a 1980 moto ski mirage special with a 377 twin carbs, I rebuilt it this summer and had it punched .020 over with kimpex pistons, it did do about 75-80 stock last year so im waiting to get some snow and see how fast she goes now, I've also got a 1982 ski-doo citation SS(exact same as the mirage exept diffrent name) and a 1984 ski-doo citation 4500 single carb with oil injc. Make sure you re seal/re ring the motor in your safari, 377's are a high rpm motor and a seal leak can cook the motor quick, inspect the crank bearings when u tear it down also. Have fun with it.
