Has anyone ever honestly cleaned their centrifugal oil filter?

They say it's a regular maintenance issue for the 90/110 types.

I must be running out of things to fix or worry about.

    Thanks

the 200 too use this kind of filter....it's a good thing to clean it when you have to remove the clutch cover to repair something, but most will not remove the cover only to clean it

I have a 200s wich like 500x has a centrifugal filter. I have not cleaned it since I picked it up a few months ago and I know the guy I picked it up from never did. And he had it for 4 years :o but I do think I'm going to go ahead and clean mine soon.

I put a new clutch in my 86 200x this spring and had the drum off. It was very clean one or two flicks of greasy dirt. That was the first time it was apart since new. I have parted out lots of atc's and 4- wheelers and only ever seen one out of 20+ that was dirty. It was one that had been swamped and filled with muddy water. I would not pull it apart just to clean the drum.

I agree, I cleaned mine just because I had it apart. There wasn't much crud in it.

My 125m has been driven daily since new in 1984.
I just cleaned that filter... There was not a spec of anything on it. Useless...
Aslong as you change your oil before it gets dirty, you would have nothing to worry about.

I had an 82 110 engine and a 79 90 engine apart last year. They had the nasiest crud in the centrifugal filters. I mean, 3/8" build up. Nasty. Also, both engines had black sludge int he bottom of the crankcase so that's a pretty good indication of the lack of care they got.

Is that the little screen above the drain plug?

^ No, it runs off the crank. I've seen some filthy and others just a bit dirty. I change oil often so I don't make a big deal out of getting around to it....

I'm a little curious if Everyone in this thread is talking about the same thing.. He's talking about the centrifugal oil "filter" 3 locktighted screws,on the crank,,and generally they are PACKED full of gray grime!!.. Now,,granted,,I'm used to seeing customers machines,,getting rebuilt,,that have been neglected. But I have never seen a clean one! EVER! . Are some of you talking about the screen in the bottom of the case? Just curious!! Yes,,Doc,,clean them badboys out! Heat around the screws Carefully to loosen the locktight.. Then impact,,that's how I do them anyhow.. Not saying I NEVER broke one,,or two.. I stil can't believe Honda designed this???!!! NOWDAYS,,I would believe it in a heartbeat!!!

atc007, i'm talking about the one inside the clutch, not the lower flat screen.

I don't recall seeing this in the manual or the parts diagrams.
