    200x swap to trx400ex engine

I want double the engine I have on my 200x 1985 and the 400ex engine for the TRX200ex quad look like it mite work. They bother are air cooled, the 400ex engine has and additional oil cooler with I want also. Has this been done before?

I think you mean TRX400EX. The TRX200SX I think it was has a lot more in common with the first gen 200x's.
You're better off just pickin up a 350X, better suspension, and they'll outright walk all over a 400EX. With a couple mods that is.

Nothing you can do to a 200x to make it compete with a 400ex or a 350x....

plus, a 400ex motor will almost bolt right into a 350x (I almost went that route at one point)

I think someone on here is doing a 250r/200x swap build right now but can't quite remember... I'll look around for the thread..

One, why would you put a 400ex motor in a 350x? (Maybe parts availability I suppose)

Two Why put a 250R motor in a 200x? The 250R has better suspension, and with the money/hassle of modding the 200x frame why not just buy a 250R? Hell you can get a nice 83-84 250R (2nd gen) fairly cheap. But the best 250R is the 85-86 (3rd gen)

If you wanna put anything in that 200x frame I'd go with a Yamaha Blaster motor. 200 two stroke (actually 195) and they are fairly cheap and plentiful, plus the Blaster has aftermarket stuff out the wazoo, even a 240 big bore kit. And let me tell you, I rode a 240 Blaster before and I could smoke a 400ex no prob.

As far as modding your 200x, you could go with a bigger cam, aftermarket pipe, port and polish, bigger carb, and a 10.25 high compression piston kit. Even a pipe and cam will give you more power than you think, but it all takes money.

As far as boring and stroking the 200x motor, thats a no go as Honda was already at their limit when they designed the 200x, seeing as it is basically a bored and stroked 175 enduro motorcycle motor I believe. You are better off selling the 200x and buying something bigger. As the old addage goes "There is no replacement for displacement"

I forget who it was, but someone at Brapp's Pennsyltucky 09 had an 86200x that was modded to the gills, and that mother would RUN! Raffa, Louis Mieke, The Great Gazoo, or Trizilla might remember what i'm talking about.
I almost wanna say it was Louis's trike, but am not positive.

I think if anything a Blaster motor, or even a CR125 (just to stay Honda) would be an awesome cadidate. Come to think of it a member on here may have done or talked about doing a first gen 200x with a CR125 motor, (try a search)
A 200x with a CR125 powerplant would be the cats balls in my opinion. Nice and light and would revv to the moon. The biggest challenge would prob be fabbin up the pipe, but what a sweet ride!

Keep in mind the first gen 200X frames are built just enough to handle the average rider with the 200 engine. No way it would live for long with anything much bigger.

And yes there have been a few 200X project bikes that will outright smoke a 350 or 400EX.

The early 200X is not out to its limit on the stroke. The CRF230 is a 66.3 stroke and its the same diameter as the 200X crank.
People would be really surprised at how a bored and stroked 200X runs.
