Do you think a Ninja 500 would do the same? Theres a guy about an hour from me and the last time I checked he was selling a Ninja 500 with no title for $150. He said he was told it ran but never started it, and it had been layed down so the blinkers and plastics were rough and some missing. At $150 if it ain't siezed and if a 250r swinger would bolt up, I would be more than happy to drive and hour for it, thats for damn sure!

With this info, I'm surprised no one has mentioned how easy it would be to own a street legal 3 wheeler! I know its been done with some other dual purpose bikes, but this sounds like a bolt on deal making it pretty cool to me.

Keep us posted if this works out for you! Does anyone know if the 90s ninja frame would do the same for a swinger swap?
Get rid of the gauge pod and headlite and it would look alot better

I would love to know for sure if that swinger genuinely is a bolt-in. I personally doubt it is, but I have no idea. If it's as easy as it's supposed to be, that might be a project worth while.

I'm talking to the guy with the bike. He said someone paid him half and is supposed to pay him the rest by last monday and he hasn't contacted him yet... I might have a chance! Also, I am getting a few four stroke quads with the bike and I wonder if the swing arm from one of those is also a bolt up, theres a couple 125's and one of them is a 125m that has no engine. I doubt the swinger is as wide as a 250r swinger though. Theres also a big red that needs brake work, tires, and a head gasket and I wonder if the swinger off a 250 big red would fit a ninja frame!

Crap I forgot about that. Well, he stated it was a 250 so I assumed big red because the pictures showed a utility style quad, and not an X or R. Are there any 250 models with chain drive?

It looks to be an 85R swinger and front end. The guy who did it is no rocket scientist so I don't think he would have spent the time, or had the knowledge to modify it to fit. Not sure which shock he used, but it is stiff a hell, so I am guessing the Ninja shock. The fact that it went through 3 owners in a month means something is up with it. Most likely a death trap. BTW, that 250 is a 2 cylinder, and if you notice the redline is over 13k, must sound cool. Probably has no torque at all, all upper rpm horsepower.

That would be the bad azz FAT CAT with a custom swinger!

There are some easy improvements that could change the way that thing drives.
Gotta shorten the header pipes to run em like a trike higher up on the frame and clearance the gas tank for better turning radius and hang ON!

It does look a little goofy but I would use a different headlight. And it would be sweet to have a street legal 3 wheeler.
Somebody needs to find out for sure if its just really bolt in.Would be fun to ride around town on.

I think states have guidlines for converting bikes into threewheelers. I know for a fact in NY, detroit lockers, or solid rear axles are not legal to drive on the street.

I wouldn't want a Ninja 250 as an offroad bike, they are quick top end wise, yes, but they don't have nearly the torque and low end grunt you'd need for a GOOD trail or rough country bike. Too high, too top heavy, too heavy period.

A BR 250 swingarm most likely wouldn't fit, ever saw one? And yes, they are all shaft drive, the only 250s that were chains were the tingers, and 125s are hard tails.

How I see it, the only way to make it handle decently either on/off road, would be to lower it, lengthen the front rake, and probably widen the axle, and that ruins it's offroad capabilities. And it'd probably still sit way too high, and with all that much weight that far forward, you'd have to sit on the grab bar to turn with any speed, I don't think leaning like you normally do would cut it.

I'd still own it if it was VERY affordable, just to dabble with it and see if it could be made into something better, but buying it to use hard as is, no way.
This is my trike. There are many like it but this one is mine. My trike is my best friend, and it is my life. I must master it as I must master myself. My trike without me is useless. Without my trike, I am useless. I must ride my trike true. My trike and I know that what counts is not the amount of miles we ride, but the time we ride together. My trike is human in it's own ways, therefore I will learn it as my brother. I will learn it's weaknesses, it's strengths, it's parts, and it's soul.

Yes the geometry was off a bit, but it still wasn't that high. If I did it, I would reroute the exhaust to come out the middle and high, change the rear shock and lower it just a bit. Of course move the cluster to the bars. Change the rake of the front forks somehow, maybe a custom set of triples, or frame mod.

I wouldn't use it off road, only in wide-open spaces like sand or ice racing.
