Note for anyone thinking of buying a 3 wheeler in the US to bring to Canada.

Well 1st of all it was really easy. But just a couple of things you should know.

1st. Since they are banned vehicles in most states you can't hold a title on them there...which is good because all you need to buy one is a bill of sale from the seller. In my case the seller was from Michigan and he didn't have the title (no one does there)

2nd. Verify that the province you are bringing it into doesn't have 3 wheelers on a prohibited list. Ontario does...BUT it only prohibits the import of 3 wheel vehicles newer than 15 years. Stupid huh? Since they are ALL more that 15 years old.

So there you are at the border with your new 3 wheeler, bill of sale in hand, verified that it can enter the province you live in. In Ontario we fill out a form called a RIV(forget what it stands for), paid a bit of tax on the receipt amount.

Shazam, a done deal, my 3 wheeler is now proud to be Canadian! One more of these collectibles robbed from the US and brought to the land of the free, home of the brave!!

Oh yes my American friends, here in Ontario they can be titled, plated and insured..in fact you have to in order to ride in some areas. Plus you have to pay trail permits in some places..

Next, I get to go to MTO to see if I can get a title/plates. Stay tunes Canadians..I'll let you know how that goes..

How much did it cost you to ship a trike across the border? I've always been interested, just figured shipping fees would be outrageous.. haha

I brought back my baby Blue ATC110, and I didn't pay anything for shipping. I took my own vehicle and trailer..you are probably right, shipping would be crazy expensive.

good to know, I am figth with the mto right now to get my sx and ownership, if it was never had an owner ship or is from another province of Canada you have to get an affidait and get a honda dealer to verifiy the vin, make, modle, aff, an year. It maybe differernt for you as it was brought up from the states tho

its not that easy is it getting a ownership a pane in the ass and i have done all that leg work and and still been denied ownership. i have been told i had to find the original owner of the bike and he had to have proof he got it from the dealer. in order to get one.now I'm at a point where i only buy bikes with ownerships unless I'm looking for a parts bike. as for the us bikes much better deals there and more 200x and 350x 250r hard to come by here in Canada. its good to know you can get a ownership for them. and I'm only 20min away from border.

I didn't say I had ownership yet..just that it was easy to get here. The RIV document that Canada Customs had me complete should allow me to get ownership. I HOPE!! If not it will have to be for use on my parents farm or other private property. Or just swap the plate from one if my others as need be.

Doesn't sound like the home of the too free over there to me. Sounds like the USA your in. LOL. The Red in the red, white and blue stands for government 'Red Tape". Looks like the Canadian flag has Red in it too.

Yeah, that 'home of the free' thing is kinda ironic.

I read in the paper the other day about a guy riding his ATV on a rural road got pulled over by police. Charges included, riding an ATV on public road, and no insurance..wait what?? If it isn't legal to ride on the road, why would you need insurance at all. So if he had insurance, it still wouldn't have been legal..I'm confused.

Oh yeah did I mention the import rule for 3 wheel vehicles..any 3 wheeler that is less than 15 years old is prohibited to enter Canada. They are ALL over 15 years old..why have that rule at all?

I know nothing is 'free' or common sense about the rules in Canada. I just managed to find a way to play with them to get what I wanted..

We brought a couple diesel Landcruisers back from Canada to Michigan and it wasn't near as hard as everyone made it sound. No $1200 registered importer fees. My advice to anyone thinking of crossing borders with a vehicle purchase is call the point where you are crossing. Its really up to the people at the bordered, and being nice on the phone and at the border helps a lot.

You guys that have problems getting ownership (aka title) for your trikes here in Ontario - just go to another MTO branch.

It's pathetic, but a LOT of branches don't know what the hell they are doing. I have purchased at least 5 ATCs that never had ownership, and I've had ZERO problems getting it each and every time. Yes, I needed to have an Affidavit notorized, but it was a very simple form and I never needed to get ahold of previous owners or Honda Canada etc.

Here is the affidavit template I have used each time: http://www.ragefaction.info/images/p.../affidavit.jpg

But like I said, some MTO offices are filled with IDIOTS - I did have problems once at an office in Kitchener, but simply walked out when they started arguing with me, went to my usual Toronto branch and walked out with ownership 10 mins later.

Doug - GREAT NEWS BUDDY!!!! Baby blue 110, wow, LET'S SEE SOME PICTURES!!!

Ownership has always been very easy for me to get here in Ontario... All i needed was a bill of sale, and boom. Plate and ownership for 35 $ + tax on the purchase price.
