    250r carb flooding?

Looking for ideas. I have taken the carb off my 86r and tried almost everything. Its been overflowing gas since I bought it. I havnt rebuilt it yet but I might have to yet.
Local shop here told me to move the clip up a notch on the needle jet. Done that. No difference. Brought the carb into him and he never seen one like it before. It is just a stock 86r carb tho. I have checked this out. He dont see R's so he never seen the carb before.
Now my theory is leaning towards the petcock that even in the off position is still flowing gas full stream is flooding out my carb. I parks my bike and she will run the tank empty on the floor.
    Any help?

Check your float Height is correct, and that there are no holes in it and full of fuel, Iv never had one, but by the looks of it the needle and Seat assembly (that is attached to the floats via the pin) is Not a Replaceable piece (the seat not the needle)..

I tested the float for holes but dont have no measuring tools to measure the float to make sure it is in the correct position. I will have to take another look at it when i get home. I was trying to blame it on the petcock but perhaps thats just another problem in itself.

the cause is most certainly your float needle and seat..remove the needle and buff the seat with a wooden dowel in a drill, seat is not replaceable, check viton tip on needle for damage or varnish "clean". re-install float and set to correct height "flush with gasket surface" do not preload spring on the needle though. make sure that tanks does not have debris in it,or put inline filter in. put your slide needle back to stock setting(nothing to do with fuel leak) good luck

The petcock does NOT meter fuel flow,it simply turns the supply on and off. Change whatever you want, you will be chasing your tail.It is the needle and seat !!!!

Alrite everything in there is on good shape and clean as a whistle so I bent the float a little to try it out. Now at full throttle see stares for fuel and dies. If I don't try full throttle it's perfect. So I guess I have to try to split the difference. She's not flooding anymore is one positive thing.

Brockey most of the time it's cause be Dirty Fuel That's Foul ( it's turns into GUM / Varnish and is hell to remove ) Set's all over the CARB Needle / Seat ~ Anything Brass Polish it with Mother's aluminum Polishing compound.

Be Very Detailed, Bend the Tab Back to where it was.

When you store you 250R DRAIN the Bowl Completely ( Remove the Nut on the Bottom Bowl )

The Fuel PetCock will need to be rebuilt or Replaced -

Yes the needle and seat may be seeping, but a functional petcock in closed position will not allow the entire tank to drain...

3 carbs later and it all seemed to be working. Stopped on the trail today and when I went to start the bike no go. Gas pouring out on the ground again. Had to jump start the bike in order to get it started. Drove home not leaking???? Parked it, not leaking? Five minutes ago had to go with kitty litter and drain the tank, it's pouring again? I am stumped...
    Anyone have anymore insight?

Had an wicked ride all the same. Quads and dirt bikes stopped admiring the old dear with her carbon fenders on. Good thing too, I used them guys to run behind me for my jump start. Lol.

Sounds like the gasket in your petcock is shot, plus bad float or float height isn't right or jet is sticking.

Dumb question, but is your tank venting ? Im just wondering if your building excess pressure...Just a thought, 3 carbs !!! Damn, there is something silly here that is being overlooked..

Petcocks have a small plastic filter screen in them that the fuel flows through.
Generally on old bikes they get brittle and develope holes in them and pieces break off and get into the needle and seat. (Usually you can see them. They are little brown and yellow pieces of plastic that you will find in the bottom of your carb bowl.)

Get a inline fuel filter from any parts store and put it in line with the fuel line going to the carb after the petcock.
Clean out the needle and seat one more time, and you should be good.
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...
