My trikes engine is shot and i have an old lawnmower engine layin around and i was woundering if there was any way i could put it into my 3 wheeler and have work reliably without using pullies and how hard would this be to do.

Where there is a will, there is a way. If you want to, you can, and I know someone has to have done this before. Probably won't be easy considering you will have to make a pulley system, use a centrifugal clutch system, and so on and so on, but the advantage is you get a lawnmower engine that will run almost anything that is combustible

It would be much easier to use a horizontal shaft motor. In that case I doubt it would be that hard to do. I'd just use a regular centrifigual clutch and chain straight to your rear sprocket. I may do the same thing in the futur with another wheeler I have.

Check craigslist for some cheap horizontal shaft motors. You can get a new 6.5 horse for about $110 from HF.

imho i think it is just easery and a better idea to just rebuild or replace the engine instead of plobing in some 5 hp briggs motor...

yeah we tried that and the engine was shot, last time we let the neigbor borrow it.... and i was thinkin more of an 18 hp motor since thats wat i have layin around lol and i found som videos on youtube on how to do it. basicly all ill have to do is flip the carb and gas tank and then just make it so the oil flows good, it doesnt look like it would be imposssible so ill try it. if it dont work ill just go buy a new engine for it.

yep, and the lawn mower tranny would be horrible. it would basically ruin a cool trike. i HIGHLY dislike the idea. you would turn it into a mower. briggs aren't made to be revved like quads. their carb set ups are for constant RPMs. if you want a simple cruiser for parties and mud bogs sure, but for a rider....NO!!!!!!!

you can buy trikes from 300 bucks that run. so im sure finding an engine is at least that easy.

Why not just look on craiglist for a decent engine then? They are in their pretty often for $100 or less. I don't understand why you would put all that work into putting a lawnmower engine in it. And pretty much any engine can be repaired with a few new parts. An 18 horse lawn mower engine is a lot bigger than most trike engines.

sounds like a good excuse to buy a new one the only problem is i dont have 300$ just lying around thats y the lawn mower engine was going to be moddified. idk i think i might also have a 7 hp horrizontal engine layin around somewere that i could also try. if i have the 7 hp engine nd it works then ill just make a go kart or something out of the lawnmower engine. either way its a project

Give craigslist a little while, I picked up a good 200S motor for $40. Plus its not like the lawn mower engine would be a free swap, by the time you bought a chain, clutch and other parts I bet you would be up around $100-200.

Please don't put a single geared, underpowered horizontal shaft motor in a trike........

Just keep looking for a runner.
