    1984 HOnda atc 110 questions

Hey everybody Biddie Here and i am a noob to this whole 3 wheeler thing and i am liking it. In the junkyard near me is a 1984 honda atc 110 for 45$ and i am about to get it an bring it home. But i have a few questions. 1. Performance.....Are they fast? are they a semi manual or auto clutch? If the motor needs extensive work to it i say a pirhana motor on some site it was a 160cc with a 6 speed manual. Would that work and fit or would major fab work be done? What site sells motors and stuff like that? I wanna go fast REAL fast. 2. There is no seat on it where can i get a seat from? 3. tires i want tires for traction. what size are they and where to by them? ANd are 3 wheelers really hard to drive fast? and do they flipp that fast? Please and thanks for reading all my normal questions.

-Welcome- 1st, they are not fast stock and take alot to get it there. And they got a semi-auto trans. 4 speed. You can put that 160cc but you got no suspension-you dont really want to go too fast on these over bumps since youve never owned one nor used to riding them (atc). Yes they do tip and are not as easy to ride hard as a 4 wheeler. Stock tire size is 22x11x8 which you can get different patterns /profiles. Look/Ask on here(classified) or ebay for tires/seat. I think tho you might want something else if you want speed,- But I would get used to riding 1st before you try haulin but around if you got no experience- no matter what you get on. (You say you want to go really fast) -Sorry to be a er but...

    I myself own a 1984 atc 110.
if you want to haul butt then just walk away. you will either hurt yourself or be disappointed.
they can be very fun and even souped up (or do an engine swap like you said) to "zip around" but definitely not haul butt. lol to me "hauling butt" is like 250r or 350x when it comes to trikes. both machines for experienced riders only.
If you want fun the 110 will do, but speed....not so much.

you sound very new to the whole ATV scene. do some research and learn what you want. even grab some atv magazines to help. good luck

If you want to haul ass then a 110 is not for you. A 110 is more of a SUT (Sport/Utility Trike) of sorts, being that they have Hi/Low gearing for crawling up hillsides or pulling large loads, and a nice semi-auto 4 speed tranny that can get them up to about 40 mph. Over that and you're pushing the limits of what the entire motorcycle can do. The lack of suspension also prohibits them from jumping really high. I do 1 foot AT MOST on my 110, and won't take it any higher without one of the hard to get and expensive aftermarket frames (because there's not a lot of them left, and nobody is reproducing them). The pressed frames aren't made for jumping at all (don't ask how i know).

They like to do donuts and go over small jumps, and wheelies and the likes too. I love my 110, but wouldn't ever think of putting a bigger powerplant in it. If you want a faster trike, then you need a 200X or a 350X, but I suggest starting off with a 200X, because it's such an awesome all around sport trike that will jump, go fast, donuts, wheelies.. ect. ect. and so on and so forth :

BTW, trikes are a different world than quads are. Quads don't groove right, whereas trikes will lock right into that groove and go right around. At least IMO. The seat on the trikes is also for looks, not actual functionality too

i see pirhanha 140cc motors with a 26mm carb an i believe its a 4 or 6 speed are they fast. what about gearing not really for top speed but for acceleration. but the main purpose for it is FUN and i have tons of atv mags but they skip 3 wheelers likke the one i am investing in.

They don't review trikes anymore because they got a ban put on them in 1987 that lasted untill 1997, then something about safety laws is prohbiting ATC's, Tri-Z's, KLT's, and ALT's from being produced again. There are loopholes in the ban, like us being able to modify quads or bikes, but not to be produced by big manufacturers until laws go into effect.

well what engines have been put in the 110cc honda before? what size motors have been installed by others? can a 200 motor be put in? like a dirt bike motor? the lack of suspension is ok for now. i have massive tools and time as well and money that can be made to invest in THIS honda 110. what about smaller tires and different gearing setting it towards acceleration?

for the money just go buy a yamaha blaster, or trx300ex or something along those lines.
a atc110 is meant to be enjoyed and turning it into some rigged up racer wont be practical performance wise or money wise.

as for engines, look into lifan engines. they are a favorite.
110s in the past had alot of mods available. but now days they are rare, for experienced engine builder to the time period only. and at that point still wont be any where near the price or speed of a newer quad like a blaster.

making a racer out of a 110 is only for the die hard fans who don't care about practicality, price, or ease of use.

hey is there any way to give these atcs a lil more ground clearance. because i wanna decrease the size of the tires and change the gear ratios to have a lil less rotating mass. also i have seen on atc 70 that are raced with slicks they have wheel spacers on one side. WHY? why not on both? and what does it do to help handling... just let it drift without flipping?
