    suzuki z400 ??? opinions

some local guy has a 2004 Z400 for sale. story is he bought it new in 04, rode it for the season, was stolen, then recovered a few weeks later minus wheels, radiator, and a few bolts here and there. Been sitting ever since, says the motor is super low hr. asking 900.00. Would this be something i should look into. Are these nice quads?? are they reliable?? Whats the diff between the Z, and the LTZ?? thanks for any info.

The z400 is just the short name for it's official name of ltz400. They are the same as the Arctic Cat DVX 400 and Kawasaki KFX 400. I think they are great quads. The motors are great with very low maintenance. I've had my KFX since November 2004. No problems. They are one of the better trail quads IMO. Stock for stock they are faster than the 400ex.

My cousin has an 09 Z400, the first year with the fuel injection and it has real good power. I weigh 260 and it will lift the front in 1-3 without pulling up. Nice Quads.

well, i just bought my wife an 03 this past july. and while we havent owned it for a long time yet, i am very impressed with it. its got great power, great handling and thus far has been very reliable for us. hate to say it buy i think it would take a fairly well built 350x to run with it. the thing i notice is that they price about the same as the 400exs. which in my mind makes them a better deal since they are liquid cooled and all have reverse gear where it wasnt till later years honda added reverse to their 400. i would absolutely pick that up for $900!

had an 06. only changed the exhaust to a fmf factory 4 pipe and fmf power bomb header with the jets that the dealer recommended for it and it would out run my 95 GMC. loved it, never had a problem. for 9 i would jump on it.

they are not my type of machine, but i have spent quite a bit of time on and around them.. pretty reliable, most failures comes from improper oil filter installation and the use of rev boxes for more rpm.. if you do not race or dune much i would recommend one over most 450's.. they have decent power, good trail manners, and respond well to mods.. for $900 i would definately get it.. also be a good machine for kids or a wife to ride..

Great quad! I own an '05 model, the only difference is they had res. shocks in '05. One thing to look for is they had an issue with the clutch/water pump side cover. The magnesium would react with the coolant and start corroding. Check the oil to check for any contamination, if looks good, you should be ok. Change the coolant anyways though. Sounds like a steal for $900. They do respond well to mods too. Last spring I installed a 440 kit, hot cams, airbox mod, full exhaust and a DRZ rev box for just a little more rpm. I can run with and beat most 450's with pipe only mods. I'd jump on the deal. My quads my up north dune riding machine, most of the time you'll find me on my trikes

The magnesium covers weren't on the 03 or 04 models if I remember correctly, so he would be ok.
