85 250r without engine, good price?

I have the chance to pick up an 85 250r for $300, only one problem its currently without an engine. Just wanted to get some input on if I should scoop it up for that price. It seems to be complete otherwise with an extended rear swing arm and wide axle. Its been sitting since its engine got transplanted into a quad in 96 or so. I've always been a big fan of the 250r, is there anything I should check in particular that would be cause for concern? Thanks for the help!

if everything else is there, radiators, good plastics, shock, good frame, good forks, controls, wheels, ect.a motor complete will be kinda high ,so 300.00 plus a couple hundie for a motor 250.00-500.00 will put you at 550.00 to 800.00

not a bad deal so long as all that is missing is the engine. figure around here a complete 250r is going from $800 needing work all the way to $2k in pristine condition. so if you figure in your motor cost and extras to be within that ballpark you should be good.

I would say that it depends on you and what you gonna do with it. I would buy them all day long like that for many reasons- Ebay, spare parts for my R's or to build something neat out of it. If you want to get it going for your main ride, you need to consider your mechanic skills and how much $ you are willing to invest.
