    K&N or UNI filter

A K&N filter is $45 and a Uni is $18, is the K&N worth the extra money?

If you ride in dusty conditions def buy the UNI if not the K&N does breathe a bit better IMO .

I had k&n on my 400ex and my old Rubicon and i switched to uni. K&N was to expensive and there would be dust in the rubber boot between my filter and carb. Cleaning a K&N is expensize because you have to use there cleaning kit. uni you just wash and oil.I have a K&N on my z71 but it never sees off road.

In my experience the K&N broke down and did not breath as well as a UNI. Im not sure why mine sucked so much but even the stock foam breathed better (yamaha warrior)

Thanks, for in the input. Sounds like the Uni would be the best choice for me. I'll add it to the I'm making tonight when I order my bearings and stuff. Next is the gearing. I think I'll go with stock gearing and down to a 20 tire. This should give me a little lower gear= stronger bottom and less top end, correct ? The chain was rusted and a few links were froozen and the front sprocket showed wear and ordering everything at once is going to save quiet a bit to just order everything now ( that's the logic of an addict, BTW ). Thanks again, I going to try to get everything needed to ride it today and hopefully new weekend it with live again!

I use a K&N. It needs washing carefully if it gets dusty - from inside to out with ordinary detergent and a hose. Using an air line is too harsh. If it has been correctly oiled it works well but if you over-oil it, it will not flow properly. Foam fliters do work as filters but I have not tried Uni.

K&N is junk.. Street/drag junk... they offer slightly better airflow at the expense of filtration... dont ever use one in sandy conditions without using an outerwear.. had problems even on my pickup with sand getting through them.... put some grease on your air filter base or inside your airbox boot and you'll see how much gets through.. after they've been cleeaned a couple times you can hold the element up in a light and see right through them... If you need more flow get a bigger foam filter

mine came with a k&n so that's what I run, but I prefer to use the uni, might end up switching sometime in the future since I ride in dusty and sandy areas

I use UNI's on both of my R's. I did have the first UNI i bought in april fall apart. The outer foam cam unglued sometime in my 100 mile ride! And I use PJI aerosol for oil treatment and luke warm water and dawn to clean it after every trip.

There are Uni filter recharge kits availible. I have a few in my showroom. You can use just about any foam filter oil. Klotz makes some, lots of companies.
