Trying to figure out if my friend has a YT175 or a YT125 (Tri Moto) - Serial Number??

My friend has what I *Think* to be a tri moto 175. I think it is a 1982 tri moto with a yt125 carb on it (the jets match the yt125).

We got a trimoto 175 carb for it, but I want to make sure it is actually a yt175 before I bother putting the thing on.

Here is the engine serial number: 20E-013068

Is it a 1982 yt175? I know it isn't a 1983 yt175 becuase the serial number for that is 5V7-000101

They only made the yt175 in 1982 and 1983 right?

Yes, only made in 82-83. Does it have front suspension? Only the 175 had front suspension from the factory, unless someone put it on the 125 Im not sure how to decode yamaha vins, surely someone on here can help!

Look on the lower left side of the cylinder and it will tell how many CC's the motor is.

Thanks Mike. I just came to the same conclusion; I found a thread that showed what all of the model numbers for the YT175 and YT125 are

I had it backwards. I thought the 1982 was the 20E, and that the 1983 was the 5V7

Looks like the frame is also a YT175 frame; it does in fact have front suspension. And the motor is definately a YT175, since the serial number I mentioned is righ on the motor.
