    Heli-coil or Time-sert

I have a couple striped out cylinder head studs and was wondering which one would be better to repair this? Thanks,Alex

Thanks, Pat but I have other cases but this is my only good DT175 cylinder so I need to fix the head studs on it.

I would run a heli-coil. I have fixed High Compression Harley motors with the coils in the bases, and had no trouble at all. Just use red or green Loctite. Green only comes off with extreme heat, but lasts and does its job better than red.

I would also think that a heli-coil is sufficient. I had a head bolt hole strip on on a big block Chevy (apparently its not uncommon) and my friend at the machine shop fixed the hole with a heli-coil. I never had a problem with it.

Personally I'd use a time-sert. But I have all the kits. They are very expensive. But they work alot better than heli-coil. Its a full bodied insert.
