    ATC 70 headlight

Hey guys, can anyone show me what a 70 headlight is supposed to look like? I've seen them on ebay, but not sure if they are a complete unit, or just a replacement housing. Mine has a home made light on it right now, and I'd like to put it right.

The only 70s that were suppose to have a headlight and taillight as an option officially was the 73 for sure and maybe the 74, but not sure on that. Otherwise, you are kind of wide open as to what to use. 73 headlight option was of course the atc90 roung headlight with the metal bucket and the light switch in the top of the bucket. The brackets needed to mount the headlight and taillight are now very scarce, meaning expensive. I'm not sure if the color of the headlight bucket was to match the trike color of orange or if the bucket was meant to be black or maybe silver like the forks. The headlight and taillight as well as the brackets were early us90 parts. You could use universal headlight brackets like I did on one of my old 70s and use a 90 headlight. The taillight brackets are just a tad harder, but I'm sure some of the fab guys on here can come up with something. There is even a 1 year only square headlight bucket that used the same headlilght switch that the atc90/early 110 used, but they are getting harder to come by. Then of course you had the later atc110 light switch on the left side of the handlebars as well. So there are options. And I've seen lights with various waterproof and non waterproof switches, some looking more professional than others. As far as 78 and later 70s, I never knew of an official headlight or taillight. If you wanted to mount a small speedo or wanted something really fancy, I'm sure you could use the headlight/speedo assembly from a z50 or ct70, that would seem like it would be pretty trick. And if you didn't want to mount a speedo, they came with a neat little Honda logoed block off plate. And a really modern taillight would surely be a nice little led unit of some kind.

i have a small PIAA halogen fog light on the front of mine right now. i havent gave her power yet. The light is very small, outs out alot of light. Maybe ill hook it up today and see how it works.

This is pretty much the light. only just grey without that flashy blue ring. It looks normal, not like eurotrash....

The bracket is the same on mine just had to reverse it and put two notches in it and it bolted straight on. current/wattage draw is the only hitch i cannot find about the light itself... hope its not much.

I installed a rectangular one from Beatrice Cycle on mine. Here's the link: http://www.dratv.com/athekitinwo.html

After I did all this, I saw some others that use the round ATC90 style headlight with the switch right on the bucket. The ATC90 headlight seems more "authentic" somehow, which may be silly since it was never an option. However, mine is an '85, and all '85's had square headlights. I did not bother to install a switch. My son rides this, and I really wanted the headlight on at all times, so I left it out.

Here's a pic of my son's. The other thing I really like about this headlight is that it's super bright and good beam, compared to the ATC90 headlight. There was a specific bulb choice that I made that made all the difference, but now I can't remember what it was...15W or 25W. I need to see if I can find that thread.

Thanks guys, that's just what I needed. I like both ideas, I may try to do a combination of the 2... when I do, I'm sure I'll be asking wiring questions... lol

The optional Headlight/Taillight kit that was made for the 73-74s but fits all ATC70s. I have both but it was a long search and many peices here and there to make a complete kit.

good luck finding a kit, VERY RARE, the head light and taillight are the same as an ATC90 but the mounts are different. You could use an ATC90 head light and the Dr ATV head light mounts and fab up a tailight mount, and keep an eye out on ebay for an ATC90 or US 90 tailght assy.. Then just make your own wire harness, the lights are turned on by the switch on the headlight. I also know Vintage Motorsports was working on an exact repro in the wiring harness

Here is my atc70. It came with the round bucket headlight, but it was broken and dented. I replaced it with this 110 square bucket with the switch on the top. I used the original brackets. Worked great. I also like how it looked.

I thought for sure the 90 mounts and 70 mounts were the same. Thanks for clearing that up. Thanks for posting up the page and the numbers too. Bruce since you have the A+ frame, what is the width of the rear grabbar?

    Hey Guys,
I do have reproduction wiring harnesses in stock they were made to exact specs as the factory honda harness for the 1973 model but will work on any year atc70, and it is made to work with the factory honda atc90 front headlight assembly and atc90 rear tailight. keep your eyes out soon I will have full lighting kits avalible just like hondas . I had tooling made to reproduce the factory chrome headlight brackets they are in production now they are 100% identical to hondas US90 chrome brackets cannot tell if you held them side by side , and i have a huge inventory of oem buckets , headlight glass and chrome bezel and light switches and rubber mounts so I can offer a complete kit that will correct as came from honda I dont know any pricing yet as most of the parts used will be authentic Honda NOS stuff . but keep your eyes out they are coming soon you might see tailight brackets also in the near future for the atc70s .. check out our sites foir any new products www.vintagemotorsports.net Mike
