    Chinese carb

Hey guys... I have a 110cc machine that ran great, then a week later it would only run on choke and won't idle. I removed the carb assuming something had gotten in there, squirted carb cleaner all over and through it, and gently used air to clear it. I am afraid to take it too far apart or change anything drastically, cause if I do this, it will never work again, ever! Any suggestions?

Sounds like your going to have to face your fears. I had the same problem, didn't want to take it apart completly. But untill I did, and cleaned everything in parts cleaner, very thourhly, then blasted all the holes/ports with air. My carb just would not act right. It isn't that bad. Just pay close attention to the pilot adjustment. Actually if it's messed up like that, go back to all factory setting to start with. If your not comfortable at any time, these people on this site are pretty good about helping you get through it!

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping for... but with it being Chinese, I don't even know what the factory setting should be, you know?

So I should use parts cleaner, not carb cleaner?

I just used parts cleaner, cuz it's all I had at the time. I don't really see much of a difference. As for factory setting, What kind of carb is it, besides just China made. Post it, and the factory setting reply's will probly come soon after!

Cleaning a carb without taking it apart is like showering with your clothes on. It just doesn't work out right.

I have never seen a carb were you could even mix up the jets, they usually all have different treads. The two screws on the side, one control mixture, the other is a throttle stop (if its like my Trail 90 carb), just turn them in until they stop gently. Counting how many turns, and set them to what they were before you took it apart. A general rule for air mixture is 1 1/2 turns out.

    I figured 1 1/2 to 2 1/2. I just don't know about those piticular carbs.

Cleaned mine the other day for the first time. watch a youtube video on taking it apart and cleaning it. It will help you face your fears. Not as scary as you may think. Only I got screwed because when I was ajusting the Idle from it shutting off I shattered the pull start spring into 3 pieces... But that has nothing to do with the carb so you will be fine

take it appart and clean it, 1 single carb is not a big deal...try doing motorcycle carbs, i rebuilt a friends sportbike carbs this weekend, now thats somthing to be scared about 4 of them attached and then sync them together haha!

total time on that took me 6 hours...a single carb shouldnt take more then an hour make to clean up good or rebuild. normaly the jets get clogged up so carb clearer spray or a gallon of it and let it sock a few hours but take all seal out if you go that route. then use an air compressor and blow out all the passageways.

Ok... I took it apart, squirted carb cleaner in every orifice, put it all back together... I could see dayllight thru the holes. I re-set the screw to where it was before I took it apart (3 1/4 turns). It will run without the choke now, but I have to keep the throttle on to keep it running. If I adjust the idle any higher, the centrifugal clutch will engage. Not sure what to do at this point, other than tear it down again and let it soak. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

Sounds like you should play with the adjustments. Are there two screws on the side or just 1? If the idle mixture screw is out 3 1/4 turns that is a lot. Try turning it in some, then it should be able to idle at a lower RPM.

Someday I'll get my hands on a CBX and I'll get six carbs to play with all on one machine.

I'm betting your tank is rusty and the filter screen has picked up some rust. They're not all that difficult to rebuild. Pick up a manual or download one: http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthr...pdated-9-13-07

Kits are $20 on eBay. Chinese carbs are $40, and from what I've read here, very hit and miss for reliability.

Nah, plastic tank, I doubt there's a manual for this POS... and if there is, it's in Chinese

Is this on an off-brand Chinese four-wheeler or something?

I could be wrong but if it's based off the Honda motor, a manual from a 90/110 should do you just fine.
