87 tecate b1 brand new setup estimate.

this is a little check up.
i plan building this specific model from scratch if i ever make enough money.
i went to this website calles powersportspro.com and looked up 1987 b2 tecate and didnt even make it through half the parts
i was trying to add every little screw or anything that the bike had when fresh from the factory.
i got through less than half of what i needed to build the bike up from piece to piece and heres the cart.

i got to a little over 6 thousand dollars. but i only got a quarter into it so it my estimate would be well over 17000$ to buy every part for this bike and build it screw by screw.
i may sound like a idiot to do this but these bikes are vanashing my point is there going to be like the tiger collection or any other rare bike never seen.

Even though the website shows the parts....many of those parts are DISCONTINUED.

Good luck on getting a new airbox and lid for it. They've been loooooong discontinued from Kawasaki. Those websites are just using Kawsaki's parts system and are getting their parts thru Kawasaki. If you go to Kawasaki.com and enter all the info for the Tecate...when you double click on the part #...it will more than likely tell you it's been discontinued. I've been doing the parts search dance for the '86/'87 Tecates for over 5 years now....most of the stuff is discontinued. That's why airboxes, chain sliders, right side radiator shrouds, seats, axles, tanks, overflow bottles......etc,etc are NOT available...regardless of what ANY parts website says.

What would be really cool is if Kawasaki parts dealerships had an interlinked search system that would allow each dealership to check each other's inventorys to see if any of those parts are still on their shelves. Sadly...there is no such system in place. Most of those parts have been purged from their inventorys.... being over 25 years old and all.

Your best bet is to find the most complete, used Tecate out there and restore it from there.

If there's anything that any of us on the 'site can do to help....just ask. There's plenty of Tecate owners out there that have been thru all of this before.

in portland theres a place called st johns honda.
i have a 350x im slowly rebuilding and they have parts that havent been touched or moved since the 1985.
once those parts are really hard to come by they charge a potload of money for them.
another way to get kawasaki parts like u said would be to google kawasaki dealers and call them 1 by 1 and ask about their inventory.
cause stjohns still has all the old parts on their shelves.

    thanks for the help.
but the hardest part of this is finding a 87
i could check canada or europe like it says in the 87 search at 3ww homepage.

    welcome to the club

most of the parts in the inventory as Maico said are discontinued. And those who have them if they know what they have, they ask alot alot of money.....

all the small thinks as rubbers, grommet, washers, scews are easy to find but its very rare to find a seat (last one new in ebay sold for 1000usd), colant tank, lighting bracket and many more parts.

I own one 87 kxt and I will start soon one thread with the restoration. I have allready spend alot of money and still haven't find all the parts i need! I try to find parts for 3 years now...

And the worse thing is that when you find one rare thing, it happens this period that you don't have the money to buy it and this drives you crazy....

well I hope i didn't disappointed you and that you will start this project. Any help or advise I would be glad to help you

Welcome 87 t3 enthusiast...I love the motivation but you are showing your a bit "green" (no pun intended ) on this one. I have an an 87 I have been collecting parts for since 2005 and have a TON of NOS goodies the I spent a mint on . Little by little chipping away at it. You will have a great time proceding but patience is key. You will not build this overnight and chances are unless your pockets are REALLY deep about 20K you wont be able to pull it off. When a super rare T3 part comes up....people spend. Most ....not all, dealerships have been scavenged by enthusiasts not just building the machine but those entreprenuers noting which parts go for cash and searching and flipping parts. I have sat down and called dealers. Many started after the 3 wheeler era and most of the olders ones dont want to chat on the phone....then you get the young parts sale rep say" We dont sell ducati" Good luck and if you need any help PM me. ( Oh there is the new 87 T3 Kawi opened up in that crate around 2 years ago at the ATV show)
Wikipedia "All Terrain Vehicle" Definition excerpt
Other smaller or lesser known companies, such as Tiger ATV, Franks, and Cagiva, produced racing three wheelers, but in much smaller numbers. Few of these machines are known to exist today and are highly sought by collectors.

If i had a nickle for every time I've heard that!

Yep, I too did the whole dealer to dealer call thing a few years ago before I was on the boards. All I needed was a brake rotor. A freakin brake rotor!!! I called Kawi dealerships and used parts guy all over the country. It took me weeks to locate one and I paid through my arse for the thing. Sadly, as the other guys mentioned, most of those parts you're looking up are discontinued.

    GOOD LUCK w/ the 87 T3!!

I love my 87 T3, BUT its a rider! To me there is nothing like handing it to someone and saying ride it till it blows! The look on there face when they see I seriously want them to take it for a rip is almost as cool as the look when they come back w/ it. They rode a 87 T3!!! you can ask the guys and girls that have ridden it. (The only one to flip it was a girl!! But she had a shot of winning the mod class at TF09s drags w/ it!!)
I love that part of the 3wheeler community.

Mike, I would rather have yours than a mint 87. Looks great!
