    350x pricing

Is 1800 to much for an '86 350x? Not gonna post link for fear of loosing it to another triker, unless i don't get back enough on taxes, then i'll post. Adult owned, never jumped raced, abused, or mistreated. Exhaust blasted and painted with hi-temp, porfessional paint all around except frame which is original paint. Professionally done stickers and engine properly broken in. New aftermarket bars, and grips. New rings, piston, timing chain, clutch, valves, and gaskets. New fender extender, peg extenders, new seat foam and cover, new shock boots, new rear tires with stripes still visible, and extended grabbar. Is this too much for this trike. I think i'm stealing it, but i could be wrong. Guy seems very polite and knows his stuff in text i've recieved. Awaiting pics as of today. Also has 200x, which i'm might purchase if I can't anti up the cash for the 350. Any suggestions?

Seems fair I guess, I paid $1275 for an all original low hour 350x, it always depends on your area. Also one thing to think about, did he do all the engine work? Everyone always thinks they are a master mechanic but aren't always as good as they think....

That sounds like a pretty decent price to me going by your description. I would go for it. I've found quite a few of those on eBay in the last month or so going for about that price in similar condition. It all depends on your location too. There's a bunch of near-mint trikes in California and Arizona for under $1800.

I'm got him texting me the name of the shop who did the workl, so I can check it out for myself. Gonna have it started and ran around before I buy. Problem is now I gotta hope the guy in front of me doesn't hop on it. He wanted it, but found out it was a clutch model (duh). So he must not know trikes anyways, so i'm hopin he'll pass. Gonna be a rider, so no worres about keeping it mint, but i'm not gonna beat it, (jumping, clutch dumping, etc.), use for trails, maybe sho up some quads at our local atv park. LOL

It might be worth it depending.....
Every trike I buy seems to need bearings and cables plus a couple misc. small things.
If so, now you are up to $2000, but if this trike is as good as it sounds, maybe bearings and cables are new too. The fresh tires is a big plus.
If you can get a decent reliable runner for $1800, and have the cash, go for it.
A 350X that has not been beat half to death is a fairly rare animal.

As for the 200X idea, they are nice, but if you desire a 350, you could end up with buyers remorse. Don't be afraid to pass on the deal if you have to, and save a little more money. Another trike always comes along if you keep looking and saving your pennies.
Also, don't use inv3ctiv3's trike as a measuring stick on price. That was a steal. If you wait for a deal like that, you will be waiting a LONG time.

    Good luck, whatever you decide.

i tend to shy away from machines that have had complete overhalls. Dont get me wrong, it could be nice, but with all he had to do to it, it was obviously used and abused in its previous life. Like inv3ctiv3 says, there are low hr originals out there for similar money, thats just my 2 cents!!

never jumped raced or abused or mistreated? If this is the case then why was the motor torn apart and redone? usually if they have never had any of these things done to them they are in pretty mint shape. Yes it has all been redone and I am sure it looks nice but the 1800 seems a bit high in todays market. Maybe I am off but you see some pretty nice machines out there for 1,000 or 1,200.

Maybe, maybe not. He might've wanted a like-new machine and wanted to redo the whole thing even if it was nice to start with. There are people out there like that. I've seen several cars on Barrett Jackson that only have 20,000 miles on them but they were torn down and completely restored, including every nut and bolt. If this one was used and abused and everything was restored back to new, it's previous life shouldn't matter much since everything was replaced or repaired. I would much rather a machine that was completely gone through than something that's been used and nothing is known about the maintenance on it.

Might seem like a dumb question/observation, but if everything needed is redone, straight, right, sound, and good.....what does it matter if it was ever ridden hard/jumped/raced/beat on?

If we're talking in terms of a buyer wanting a mint/original/unmolested machine, then I can understand the differentiation and that's cool.....to each their own preference....but nowadays it's likely gonna cost a few more shiny pennies. More than I could or would give.

If we're talking about a machine that is going to ridden or raced, something is going to get bent, broke, or modded eventually. Then what? If it's repaired right, is it still worth a whole lot less?

My oldest boy just bought an '86 350X. Needs seat cover, seat foam, the timing chain replaced, a front tire, and a lot of cleaning. He gave $800 for it and is having the time of his life on it. If it had been a beautiful $1800-$3500(crazy there) machine, he would ride it the same and just be out more money overall.

I'm looking at a straight, good running '85 R at the moment that needs cleaning, rear plastic, tires, and a seat cover for $900. If I end up with it(and it looks like I will), I'll ride it ugly the same as I would ride it beautiful.....just have more money left over for repairs and mods. To me, I rather buy something cheaper that needs built so that I know what I have when it's done. I've always considered myself to be just riding someone else's machine that I bought unless I have skinned my knuckles on it and bled a drop or two in the motor anyway Then it's mine.

Just bought a 1985 350x from a member. It is in awesome condition and I am glad to have it in the garage. I paid 1650 for it and I am happy with that. We all have read about screaming deal some people have found but my broyther and I have also let go of real money for a nice ATC. The screaming deals are good, but harder to find. We like 3-wheelers that have not been tampered with a ton and then you can always clean it up from there. If anythings over 1200 or so I like it to be original as can be and not beat to death. Good luck.

I got to thinking about it and i decided to jump on another one i found for $800. The $1800 one was too nice for what i was going to do with it. The one i'm looking at now needs front bearings soon, one owner, still riding it. The guy also has a restored tri-z 250 for sale. But i didn't ask price on it. $800 is more in my range of a trike i can take out and ride and not worry about having butt loads of money in it.
