    make your own spark arrestor?

Hi guys, I was wondering if it is possible to make your own spark arrestor? The DG exhaust on my YTM200 and 225DX do not have one. And to ride certain places I need one. Stock exhaust was junk on both. Can I modify the silencer to work like a spark arrestor? Or can I buy a screen or something to install? Thanks for the info

Oh, and i did buy one of the Cobra Sparky universal spark arrestors but it slip fits on the end of the silencer. And it does not fit over the DG silencer, even got the biggest one they make

I've never done it, but the DNR or Forest Service doesn't recognize it as an actual spark arrestor. It has to have the certified stamp on the sparky to be legal. The DNR up at SilverLake Dunes was telling us about it one day. Just thought you should be aware of it before you go through all the trouble of making one.

they always claim you have to have a spark arrestor but in reality all they do is glance at it i used to have a 4*4 400 arctic cat the sparky started rusting and breaking so i took out the screen and just screwed the cover back on nobody ever checked inside and i did meet a few mounties
Using a manual isn't that like cheatin?

most the time at the dunes and stuff, when they check they have a rod test like thing (a fancy stick) and all they do is jamm it in your exhaust to feel for a screen or aarrestor of some sort. if you have somthing in there to stop the stick then your golden, but yeah live said by clutch, they might wanna see all that certified stamp crap, but very rarely since people are just plain lazy and get paid the same either way. =) =P

but most the time they just wave you threw after "looking" at the exhaust (they just look at the tail pipe while the boss looks to make it look like they are doing their job haha) at least thats how it is at silver lake in michigan

The only thing I have encountered in MI is them trying to jam a stick in my silencer to find a screen. I bought a Pro Circuit Sparky screen for ??? 4-stroke? ?? or whatever and put it my end cap of my dirtbike silencer. Works every time. I did that cause it was quick and easy but i could have jammed any screen in there.

that's what I was thinking, I've seen where you can just buy the screens. Might go that route for now, and if that's a no go, guess it's time to find a stock exhaust in decent shape.

thanks for the pics, that gives me an idea of where to go, that looks hairly easy to make. On silencers that originally come with a spark arrestor, are they mounted on the end like that or farther inside the silencer? If i go to the trouble to make one to get in somewhere want to make sure it passes

I wonder if you could make this work?

    Sinkware 5061 Stainless-Steel Bathtub Strainer

On my 200x DG pipe I measure 3.375 I.D. for the pipe can and 1.825 I.D. for the exhaust hole.

I bought a used supetrapp arrestor from e-bay and mounted it on my dg with long sheetrock screws.
