There are a couple tow'ds around for sale. I know of one in NY that is really cherry and has all the fenders and engine cover and even convertible top with side windows, but it is priced at $14,000. It's been for sale for a while now and the owner might take a lower cash offer. It's totally turnkey.

Raffa, that first pic reminds me of my old Tuff Tub. Built on a full size pan. Started off with a 1200 and later changed out with a 1641. That thing shook, rattled and rolled, but was a blast. And it was fun to put 4 or 5 or even 6 people in it and cruise around. It always attracted attention everywhere and occasionally with the police!!! LOL It was my daily driver when I lived in Florida for 1 1/2 years or so. Faded metal flake brown. A friend of mine called it the "Turd"! LOL He even put a decal on it proclaiming it as such, and I didn't notice it the day he put it on and I drove around all day with people honking thier horns and waving. LOL
Jason, so you mean someone may actually want the tires? Wow. I guess people say that when we pick up those crappy trike projects! LOL

vealmonkey. they were real popular tires back in the day pre Super Swampers. they worked really good off roading. for you a set of 31" tires like BFG all terrrians would be cool

the front tires were used alot also for mild offroading. they sold them in alot of bigger sizes

I remember the fronts being sold at places like western auto. They were popular tires out west for baja and such. I didn't know about the rears. This Tow'd will be street only and I have a set of vw slot mags, no more off road tires or off roading.

Pat you should drop it down with and adjustable front beam or spindles and adjust I forget what it's called the"swing arm"? In the rear. Also some nice disk brakes and a type 4 motor with an upright fan shroud would make a nice street buggy!

I sure do want to go disc brakes all around. Not sure about dropping the front yet. Until I get it sitting on more stock sized tires all around, I'm not sure how it sits. I do have 4 bolt vw pattern aluminum slots for it in 15" though that I want on there. I was thinking a tweaked 1776 being as it doesn't weigh a whole lot and a super street freeway flyer transmission with all the heavy duty internals and side cover and such.

Major progress today. 86trizinger, Chris, came over today and we finished trimming down the rear pan section to fit in the Tow'd. We removed the engine and then the old rear pan section and swingaxle trans and tires as one assembly, it is only held on 8 bolts and 2 large U-bolts. We then placed the new pan section in place and bolted it back together. We then put stock wheels back on. The tow'd looks totally different now. Thank you Chris.

Pat what about a Gene Berg 5 speed?I always thought the 1835cc was a torque motor .But 1775 is a good set up if I remember correctly. Also if anything get rid of the points set up in the ignition. My bug burned the points out while listening to the radio while not driving.LoL

The points should be fine, no radio! LOL Heck, the seats don't even move back and forth! No real seats per say, just seat cushions over the designated areas. If I remember the Gene Berg 5 speeds right, they are not overdrive transmissions, but close ratio transmissions. But I could be wrong. If you see how much this buggy doesn't have and how small and tight and compact it is, you would be amazed. When 2 people sit in the car at the same time, you pretty much rub shoulders. They were originally designed to provide the bare minimums you needed to go off roading and to be towed
(Tow'd) behind a camper. It has a built in tow bar and is very light. Shorter than an 80" pan standard dunebuggy. It is quite primitive even by dunebuggy standards! LOL

Fun projects to work on, I did an old bugpack chassis that floated around the city as an offroad buggy for years. stripped , painted , made street legal up here and drove it for a couple months till insurance got the appraisal and said no way. Really sucked as it was a lot of fun in the summer.

berg 5 speeds are close ratio. 5th is the same as 4th in a stock trans.
Nothing wrong with a 1776. If you wanna make that towd scream, I can point you in the right direction. hehe (My 1776 has about 170hp) good for 14 flat at 96 mph in a 2200 lb Beetle on radials and stock ratio trans. (pump gas, street driven, 8800 rpm shifts)
A set of 44mm Webers/Portwork and a 4 into 1 header and it would wake it up so much it would probably scare you. (can you say wheelie monster!?!) HM
