5 wheeler, not the John Deere.

No pics. *edit sept 20th: Got pics scroll down a little* Just wondering if anybody knows anything about a 5 wheeler that was not made by John Deere.

My buddy has a old Sasquatch and it looks exactly like what we use to have except 2 extra wheels in the back. Steering looking the same, foot rest were exatcly same, motor was same 340 motor made by same company, even square tube frame looked the same. So think that's a start to find out what it is. It's same layout as the Gator, belt drive, gas tank towards the back. It was 2 wheel drive (front 2 wheels) and with the press of a foot lever, it engaged a coupling in the farthest axle (took a sec to line up), locked the 2 together and made it 4 wheel drive. Thinking back about it, I think it was 4wd full time but the foot lever made it a locked 4 wheel drive. It even had reverse. Which probably necessary on a machine that big with a dump box. Had twist throttle. Front suspension.

ANY thoughts? I broke a dog pin in the transmission for the second time. It got up on 2 wheels wide open, the 2 wheels on outside were spinning wide open and it came back down, snap and crunch noises. The guy that fixed it first time wasn't around. So we gave to a family member to fix and he never gave it back :|. Come to find out it died and they just crushed it since they ran a auto mechanic business with a junkyard.

That's all I can dig up too is the sasquatch info. But I know this thing was same thing but 5 wheels because even the 340 print with the different color blocks was the same. The way the rear axle is housed on the 3 wheeler was the same as what was on the front 2 wheels of the 5 wheeler. I WISH my parents had taken a pic of it at some point. Had that thing for a few years. Same 3 colored lines went down in the same spot. Looking at the second one, the black one. That's what our 5 wheeler looked most like except ours was red. Had pull start and electric start both in the same spot.

And had exact same front basket like the one this youtube video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KZsXUZvfPg

Also sounds exactly the same and the exhuast outlet looks the same. Has a little cap on the end with screens or something.

Commuter makes it, same one's that make the Sasquatch. Guy said (as I posted) that John Deere patented the 5 wheeler, or bought the rights to make one or something, and Commuter no longer made them at that point. Didn't make them for long.

yeah thats almost the AMT600 to a tee

i bet the trans is the same considering what you were talking about with the foot pedal that locked all wheels, my AMT has that too

we looked at a 600 that was in rough shape (no oil in motor, owner didnt seem to think that was a problem) and ended up getting a 626 in not much better shape (has the golf cart front end) kinda wish we had gotten the 600 now. the 626 is now getting a down to the frame resto-mod. with some tires off my big red, a 13 hp honda clone from a generator (with a new straight shaft crank) and a rebuilt trans along with some new bearings, and a hydraulic brake setup with honda master cyl and Hyundai tiberon rear brake calipers, it should be one hell of a beast

the transmission in mine was hit on a rock (theres no skid plate, there will be soon) and by the time they discovered it, it had been run dry for a while. the bearings had seized and spun in their bores in the housing, ruining the cases. of course someone just slapped in new bearings and covered the hole in the bottom with ALUMINUM TAPE. i noticed it leaking and poked at the caked on oil gunk to find the edge of the tape and tore it down to find the rest.

if you look on ebay there is a guy who parts out AMTs out in like washington state. he can help you with transmission parts. you wont find the commuter original stuff but im sure its the same trans

Yea, that commuter 4x5 was the last machine that the commuter company made. I don't know much about the details, but they were made as a prototype. When shown off at a Agro (not argo) convention, a rep from John Deer bought the Patent. This was in 83 or 84. John deere then polished it up and marketed it as a All Material Transport with 600 lbs recomented cargo capacity. A.K.A John Deere AMT 600. I have no clue on how many there are.
