the top end has different porting, different powervavle setup(interchangeable), but basically the same, the same is true for the 84/85 kxt and 83/84 kx250.

For a little more pep on your 86 you can run the KX Carbon reeds and the thinner KX headgasket.

IF I REMEMBER RIGHT, 4TH AND 5TH GEAR ARE DIFFERENT RATIOS. THE DRIVE GEAR ON THE BACK OF THE CLUTCH BASKET IS 1 TOOTH SMALLER AND CONVERSELY THE SPROCKET ON THE CRANK IS 1 TOOTH LARGER ON THE KX250 ALSO. I HAVE PUT A CYLINDER FROM A KX ON A TECATE AND COULDN'T TELL MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE.

If my memory is correct the cylinders were the same on the 86 KXT and KX. Now the 84/85 was a different story as the more agressive KX cylinder is the way to go.

JBKX is correct. I have a 86 kx250 trans, it runs a different 4th/5th. I have a 86 kx250 cluch basket w/ drive gear in my T3, it is a 1 tooth difference. I know HAGEN has the same setup for his T3. There is a different shiftshaft seal on the kx also. I know the ignitions will swap, the jugs will swap, the heads will swap, the side covers will swap, the kickstart gears will swap, powervalve stuff swaps........just keep in mind what stuff came off so that you get the rite seals for the rite covers, the rite basket for the rite drive gear, ect, ect....

GOOD LUCK
