I scored a new full 400ex exhaust system for my x just more or less finished it up. I figured i would share my thoughts of what has to be done to make it work with any of you that may be interested in doing this.. Its pretty simple, the clamps that bolt to the head on the 400 are offset, unlike the 350x which are centered. You will have to make new clamps. The clamps are easy to fabricate with a sawzall, grinder and a drill press. Chuck the 400 clamps out, throw on your new and improved correct clamps after cutting the tubes and weld the tubes back together. I cut off the mid muff mount from the frame, above the rear brake master, im sure if you took some time and did some tricks with the torch you could get the header to go around, but i could personally care less if it's there as i dont plan on using it ever. I did however save the mount and put it in my cabinet just in case. You will see another place where the exh is welded above the brake master. I had to cut a pie piece out to make the head pipe turn the correct way to line up with the muffler and also trim back about a half inch or so to get the muffler mount to line up with the grab bar mount. Take your time on this part, 'measure twice cut once' plays in here. I love it, it's so quiet now nobody can hear me, that in turn means nobody can trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro about the noise. It had a full dg on it before, it was loud. It now has more low end snot, and i honestly cant notice any difference up top. The only other thing i have to do is make a mount to re-locate the rear brake resivoir. Im thinking just a simple strap that goes from the original mount a couple inches long to put it where it wont melt. A picture is worth a thousand words so here you go.

that's wierd, I was always under the impression that it bolted up fine, but then the headpipe ran too close to the head...

nice little job you did there.

I too was under that impression, but i was misled. Its the same distance from the side of the jug to the exh as the dg setup was.
