I just recently got a 86 200s and it has an issue. It fouls plugs real fast and it smokes a lot under heavy throttle.

I've tried turning the fuel screw in, and that actually seemed to make it worse....should I be turning it out instead of in?

Also...could this be valve clearnace related? I haven't done that yet but it was just a thought. This thing fouls plugs after like 15 minutes of riding. They're fouled so bad it won't even start until I put a new plug in. It's pretty bad.

Thanks in advance

That usually means rich but why?

Have you removed and cleaned all the carb jets? Is the fuel fresh?

That fuel screw affects idle to off idle acceleration, not so much wide open.

Is the airfilter on there and clean??

Has it sat long and could it need a carb rebuild kit?

Adjust the valves per the manual (get one) anyway but that shouldn't be the issue......

ok so no on the valves....why is that?

I think I'll go pull that carb off and give it a good bath.

The thing seems to run strong almost all the way to the top, and then it grumbles at the top once in a while. Other than that I would say it runs good. Even though it runs strong, if I nail the gas a big black plume of smoke pours out.

It has a brand new moose foam air filter on it.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the quick response, and I really am sorry for being "that guy" who asks the same questions you guys have all probably answered a thousand times before. I'm a jet ski guy, and the three wheeler is used to pull my ski up and down the beach, hence the newbie questions.

so i went out and cleaned the carb, and put it back on and now when i start it, it revvs to the MOOOOON!!!!

I'm not sure what I did wrong...maybe put the throttle puller thing in backwards? Even with the idle screw all the way out it just revs and revs.

What do you think?

take it back off and clean it again .... take all the jets out and make sure they are clean

fixed the rev problem, i did end up having the throttle body in backwards.

Now it starts, but even with a clean carb it still smokes.

I'm adjusting the valves tonight, changing the oil and hoping for the best.

Any other reason for the smoke? Bad rings?

ok one more newb question.....Do I turn the fuel screw IN or OUT to get LESS fuel to the carb?

so i turned the fuel screw all the way in and the plug keeps getting fouled. When I take it out it's a dark dry black color. I'm going to try a smaller main jet, if that doesn't work is there a chance it's going to need a top end rebuild?

It also smokes white/gray under heavy throttle
