350x Rear shock disassembly

My spring is getting rusted and needs to be painted....I need to loosen the adjustment and take the spring off.... My ??? is when its time to install the spring, is it just going to slide on and put the nut right on or is it something that needs to be compressed??? I need some help...Thanks

Once you loosen the nuts on the top, a collar can be removed on the bottom. The spring will then slide off the bottom.
