how long does it run for? does it die quicker if you run it at a higher rpm?

yes it dies faster when riding it at high rpms but it will take 5 to 10 min if you are just riding it

im not sure, i know its a flywheel / stator combo on that particular bike, if the coil was getting to hot enough to stall out the engine like that. would it not fry the coil? im stumped sitting here thinking about it.

Is the gas cap venting properly. if you take it off you should be able to blow through the little hole on the inside.

Even though you said that you could blow through the little hole in the gas cap, have you ever tried to take off the gas cap when it dies and see if it will run?

well from what i can tell.. a coil can get as hot as it needs to, as long as theres no shorts where the coil breaks or fries. it will still send a charge. (i think) take the air box off, get a windex bottle or something simular put gas in it. and when it starts to die. begin spraying gas into the airbox input. that will eliminate the fuel problem if there is one.

another thing to check, right after it dies. pull the plug, ground it and see if u get spark, if not then its an electrical issue, if u got good spark still. its probably a compression/fuel issue.

does the time it takes for it to die keep getting shorter each ride? do a search theres a thread with the same problem on a 250sx he fixed it too

I had the exact same problem on a minibike with a 5hp engine (I know they are quite different from a 3 wheeler). I swapped the coil with the one from my parts engine and it fired right up.
It was because the coil heated up then had a short and lost the spark.

I just bought a 1986 Honda 250 ES Big Red that's been sitting in a shed for 10 years. The carb was stuck but I cleaned it and got it running. It will only run with the choke on. The throttle arms got bent from someone cranking on the throttle with the slide stuck. I bent it back but it didn't help. Does anyone have all the adjustment specs - linkage, adjustment screws etc. Please help!

Welcome to the board. Check the manual for the specs.
