Try to kill 2 birds with 1 post. My 84 200x will sometimes shift into 1st and sometimes nothing? I am in the process of replacing clutch which it needed anyway. Here is a pic of the star looking shift gear and armature, does it look normal?? Has some wear, what area of mechanism shoud I check?? No bad noises or clunking etc..... just will not engage 1st gear sometimes?? As well check out this oil pump cover nut!!! My word, someone hacked this baby up..... need some new stuff... Thanks... http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo321/andyatc70/th_Picture413.jpg (http://s388.photobucket.com/albums/oo321/andyatc70/?action=view&current=Picture413.jpg) http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo321/andyatc70/th_Picture412.jpg (http://s388.photobucket.com/albums/oo321/andyatc70/?action=view&current=Picture412.jpg) p.s where can I get the clutch nut tool cheap???? ebay??? anyone ??

The special clutch nut tool- Make one out of an old socket or thicker piece of pipe. If you use the pipe, drill a hole so you can use a bar to stick through it, and turn. The pipe way you would not be able to use an impact nor be able to torq it to spec though, like the socket idea. It actually mentions somthing about making that in the manual.... Good luck!

I'd personally just buy the tool. It's only like 20 bucks shipped on ebay. I tried twice to cut down sockets to use, and they broke off each time, and one threatened to mess up the oil pump nut. Here's where I got mine:

Your problem sounds like a shift fork. Unfortunately you have to split the cases if this is true. The little nubs wear over time and it make is hard to shift into gears. If ya ride hard they wear. I replace mine every few years.

I have some of the spanner sockets for the 200x. I will be bringing them to TF if anyone needs one. $9.00 a piece. Get a motion pro if you get one. They hold up better. I have these.
