Would it work? Anyone tried it? Sure would be sweet with E Start and reverse. Of course, I would expect to have to install the 350 piston at the least, but even if you had to change out the crank, rod and piston, it would be worth the effort.

I know the whole 300EX engine will go in the X frame with only a couple of minor alterations...

I've always heard people talk about this hybrid and how the 350x top end should "bolt right on" but I don't think its ever been done lol

^ why do it anyhow? The weak link of the 350X is low oil/poor maintenance/backwards oil filter and they all lead to the same failure of the 350X head.

I consider the 350X to have a near bulletproof bottom end, ever seen a broken tranny on a 350X??

I agree, Dirtcrasher, and I'm not questioning the quality of the 350X bottom end. I know they are tough as nails.

My goal is to get e-start and reverse though, which is simply not possible with the original 350X engine in there. Looks like I'll just have to decide if e-start and reverse are worth 50cc's and some torque loss.

I have a spare 350X engine that runs but could use a rebuild. I'll hunt down a 300EX and just see what it looks like with the two side by side.

I appreciate everyone's input on this!

if the topend of the 300ex is the same as the trx300 then, no it wouldn't work withou some sorta adapter base plate. I have a trx 300 and 350x setiing in parts in my shed. The head will slide on the studs but it doesnt match up around the cam chain area.

goki electric start and a big bore kit .... its a trike do you really need reverse? I know it would be "neat" but is it worth the hurdles ?

As i was reading i was thinking the goki electric start to ,iv seen them on ebay more than once but i think the huge starter hanging off the side is kinda wierd and might get in the way but thats just me iv never seen one actualy on a bike befor.

Yeah, I've read a few posts from people who have tried those goki kits. Most complain that they are weak and can barely turn a 350X. Plus that cheesy starter hanging off the side like you said.

I guess for me, I'm always trying to remove weight from my 350X, I don't want to add anymore :D

A properly tuned 350X is 2 kicks at worst.....

EDIT - Apparently they do bolt in there somehow..... I half asssed read the auction and wondered why the motor looked odd to me

Yep just got 1 every gear except 1 had at least 2 teeth missing. The crank was fine. I don't know what happened.

basicaly nothign will interchaince from the 300ex to the 350x but the motors will almost bolt in with verry few mods to put the 350x motor in the 350x it requires a little trimmign on the cases to get it to fit into the motor mount so it should be fine on the 350x mount.
