I just bought my first trike, a '82 Honda 200 big red, and am having problems with the bike killing spark plugs after one or two starts. i'm not very mechanical when it comes to whats wrong with trikes, but i have a good friend who says he can fix it i find out whats wrong with it and get the parts.

so any help with this problem would be greatly appreiated.

Cheers,

Kevin

What do you mean killing plugs? Turning them black?

My 200e was doing the same thing, after 2-3 rides the spark plug was black and it will not fire anymore. The problem was a blown head gasket.

it can be anything from a carb rebuilt to as much as a top end rebuild needed. your goig to have to get more detailed and also post photos if stuff and the plugs.

Ill start by saying that gap looks really small! Also looks like you are getting way to much fuel in there.

i believe the gap is to small, i'm not very mechanical and was sure what to set it at.

Gap 0.024-0.028 in. (0.6-0.7 mm)

is it possible that it could be the seal on the inside of the CDI that is causing this problem?

That seal would allow oil to come out of engine but not anything into the combustion chamber.

Looks oil/carbon fouled to me. You could have a bad valve seal, dirty carb, worn rings, plugged exhaust - you just gonna have to run thru the basics and you'll get it.

Start with a compression test COLD and then add a TBSLPN of oil in the plug hole and compare the compression tests. If it rises, your rings are shot and if it stays the same, you have a leaking valve.

BUT, you can have a non leaking valve with a bad valve seal that would allow oil in the combustion chamber so keep that in mind :D
