i have a 82 185s and the other day i had to pull out my 200 yamaha out of a hole in a swamp and i was trying to take off slow by letting the shifter slowly up in 1st gear my trike doesnt idle on its own so i was slightly revving it as i let go of the shifter when it started to take off it suddenly revved and wouldnt shift into gears i talked to a mechanic and he said that most likely my clutch went out ive heard about adjusting the clutch but i dont know how any advice would be appreiciated

Welcome to the board.
From the manual - Loosen the locknut, turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise until resistance is felt. Then turn the adjusting screw clockwise 1/4 turn and tighten the locknut.

the adjusting screw didnt budge at all it was in neutral when i tried it , if that matters

You might want to take the side cover off and take a peek in there.
