just picked up a tri-z yesterday that i couldn't pass up (even though i blew the head on my truck this weekend. LOL). it's been ridden no doubt, but has plenty of potential. runs liked a raped ape and all the front and rear bearings are all tight. plastics need some lovin and most importantly, the rear shock makes it like riding a really fast rubber ball bouncing all over the place. i remember seein a long time ago a post on interchangeable shocks for the z but can't remember which they are. i'm pretty sure one was a blaster rear shock, but i'm also pretty sure the blaster shock is a piece of crap with ne resevoir. are there any others that will bolt up with little or no modifications? banshee maybe?
also, the z came with a partial rolling chasis so i have extra parts if someone wants to come off a rear shock for somethin i may have that they need.
thanks for any help,
steve

I think that the Yamaha Warrior shock is interchangeble. Mike From Long Island has a warrior shock in his Tri-Z I think.

hey, thanks for the quick replies fellas. now can ya tell me what all kinds of adjustments the warrior shock has? how does it feel on your z? do you know what years from the warrior i can use or are they all the same (i know the warrior hasn't changed much so i guess they probably are all the same) is the warrior shock more dependable then the original tri-z shock (from what i've heard the triz shock is basically a piece of crap, right?)
thanks again for the help, so nice to have a liquid cooled 2 stroke again.
peace,
steve

I had my z's shock rebuilt and it works great. It cost $130 for the rebuild, thats cheaper than buying a good new warrior shock and it has more adjustability.

..... what ever you do DONT try and mount a Banshee one. The problem is, it'll bolt up just fine .... untill you put that piggyback rez. through your expensive gas tank.

Ive got a Warrior shock on mine. They have rebound dampening adjust, and preload from double locking nuts. Somebody said the TriZ has damping adjust for both rebound and compression, but its been years since Ive seen a working one. The only advantage to the Warrior shock is thats its a lot easier to find. The spring is a little stiffer which could help or it could hurt, depending on your weight. The Warrior shock will not last any longer, and is not any better than the Z. Its pains me to say it, but Yamaha shocks arent very good in the longevity dept. The Z, Banshee, and Warrior shocks all have a short life before they blow. If you have a good Z shock, and youre looking for a "better" one, the Warrior shock wont help. If you are replacing a blown one, they work great. Stock Banshee shocks which the resevoir attached to the base of the shock wont clear the tank. Aftermarket Banshee shocks, with a resevoir on a hose work fine.
Cool, that means I could probably use a banshee piggy-back shock on mine since I don't have a stock gas tank!
Fortunately, my Z shock is in good working shape.... :-D :-D
