hello
just thought id share a pic of the 85 yamaha 225dx i picked up last weekend.

i got it from a guy on craigslist for $550.00 which i thought was a steal on account of the shape it is in. really the only thing i can find wrong with it is that the front mudflap looks as though a dog chewed on it a bit, nothing major, and one of the fork rubber boots has a small tear in it.

the rear plastic is sun faded but nowhere near as faded as the 82 125 i picked up in march.

everything works really good on it, electric start, it even starts first pull.

after getting the tire pressure correct in all tires it rides really nice and straight, no pulling in the steering.

i really like that i dont have to premix fuel for it too, my 125 at some point had the auto oil removed.

i had a family friend of mine who is an old time biker look at it and he said it has every original screw and part on it as far as he can tell, most screws have never been removed. he did say that the clutch adjuster screw has wear on it though, so someone has been messing with it.

i really like this machine, after riding my 125 trimoto for the last couple months and learning how to ride a 3 wheeler, getting on this 225 with shocks is like riding on a cloud, and to me it seems like it has unlimited power, it halls balls. big difference between 2 and 4 stroke.

ill get some pics of it up on here this weekend, heres the pic that i saved off the add on craigslist of it.

i love 3 wheelers.

Not to bad.
Something is wrong with the forks. The brake drum should be on the left side of the wheel. It is the first time I see a headlight guard like this, does it looks to be homemade?.

you are correct, not only that from looking at a picture of it on here of the same bike, look at the position of the forks where they bolt up to the tire, they should be over the top, looks as though someone took the front end off and put it back on backwords. the forks should be in front of the tire. the light cage i have seen on other 225 pictures. its not homemade.

yeah i will post some pics of it after i change the front end around this weekend.

that kinda irks me, but the forks are definately put on backwards, im glad you noticed that, that cannot be safe the way the forks are sitting behind the tire now.
it probably wouldnt take a whole lot to break and crash.

I am pretty sure that the headlight guard is a factory Yamaha guard. I picked a new one up from a dealer a while ago, It was just laying on his shelf. I left it on a bike that I sold a while back:crazy: ,but have since picked up another for the one 225dx that I have now. I also have one that looks the same, that is on my Yamaha Yt125 3-wheeler,the only difference is it mounts differently and is a little smaller.

Two wheelers in two months, you're on a roll...

Someone had two Yamaha guards like that for sale on here, awhile back.

well heres an update

i called the fellow i got the bike from and asked him what was up with the front end, and he reminded me that he had told me he switched them around some years back on purpose because he hauled a garden trailer around his property with it and it helped keep the front end down, he did tell me that he inverted the forks, i payed no attention and forgot.

so the question is should i put them back to original? im sure that the forks are much sturdyer the correct way, i mean they had to be stress tested for safety.

im just asking opinions on what i should do, change em back? or not.

I'd change them back like they should be. Unless you are hauling a garden trailer around on your property. hahaha

Seriously, put them on like they should be. It could hinder braking, as well as steering.

Just my $0.02

i took the 225dx to the car wash tonight and it cleaned up pretty well.

this winter i am going to try and do a restore on it, that is if it aint been crashed,LOL.

someone asked for a picture of the guard on the headlight. its amazing what you see when looking at a picture, i never noticed it was broke on the bolt mount left side till i took a pic of it.

anyways, not much to look at just thought id share. im pretty proud of this 3 wheeler, to tell you the truth i think if i wanted a brand new 4 wheeler i could have one tomorrow morning if i bitched enough. but i wouldnt trade this for one.

I am totally building that headlight guard. *starts drawing up designs* My dad's a master welder, so I think I'm going to get him to piece me something together. That's a hell of a good deal, cosmetically. Enjoy that.
