i got a 73 atc70 and it needs a motor. i did some work for a guy and got this motor off of him. it looks like it used to have electric start on it one time but they cut it off. any how it came with this cdi and wiring harness. i got great compression but i just cant figure out how to get spark with what i have. i tried 2 different coils and nothing, brand new blaster plug, using it to check spark.
can ya help me to figure what i got to do?
i think this is a 107cc motor as well but i dont know for sure. heres some pics that i got.

Your wiring looks kinda sketchy. I would run through it if you haven't already. What brand is that engine?
Rob
ditch the wiring harness and build your own.
Have you tried hooking a battery to it?

how?
where would the battery go?
i dont know who makes the motor. the wiring harness is all there, nothing sketchy with it. i do beleave the yellow wire hanging is for lights
I have a basic wiring schematic i can post when i get home. It will allow you to go through and make sure everything is wired the way it needs to be. Most of these small china electronic ignition has to have a battery of somesort. I will look at mine when i get home to see where the power connects. It seems like it was tied in through the electric start but i am just speculating.
I found a good link

this will help ensure that the wiring is correct. then you can start eleminating things.

What you have there is half chinese motor and half TRX70 Wiring. This could be part of the problem.

yea there is a hb2 on the cdi plug like honda would use.
my question is can i make it work?
since i dont have points with this set up maybe the mag trigger isnt working with the cdi.
just a thought

thanks so much, you hit the nail on the head.
i just happened to do a search for trx70 wiring diagram. i seen a green/red wire on there and it was for a neutral safety switch. so i ran out there and hooked everything back up and remembered i didnt hook it up. well i hooked it up to ground and pulled the cord. we got spark.
now i have to get the right plug and see if it goes boom at the right time. if it does into the atc 70 it goes.

well i got the plug and dumped some gas into the intake. it fired up. so i bolted the motor in and got everything hooked up, but it will not start on its own. i still have to get gas into the carb for it to start. when that gas burns off it shuts off. i cleaned the carb 3 times with no luck. ill see if i can get another carb and see if that helps.
