i have a 1984 honda 125m atc, its a four speed and the transmissin is shot from what the honda dealership says. i was wondering if there is another transmission from a newer bike or four wheeler that would fit... i cant seem to find a transmission for it. im new to the three wheeler stuff. thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Where in Pennsylvania are you? The 125's are fun. Usually one part of the transmission goes, not the whole thing. What did the guy at the dealership say what was wrong with it. Most likely he said it was shot so they didn't have to work on it

Welcome. What's the tranny doing (or not doing)?

well it wont go into gear and (i guess its the output shaft) the smaill gear that turns the chain is locking up... the wanted to charge me 300 just to pull the motor and trans out just to diagnose the problem. i would rather try and fix it myself if possible. i cant see payin 300 just to TELL me whats wrong not even fix it haha.( i only paid 600 for it)

You can look on this site for service manuals, print it out and it will save you headaches in the future. You could score a running engine on ebay for about $100-$150 most likely and use your engine as parts. If it wont go into gear it may just be the shifter dog bent or broken. If you are mechanically inclined look up the service manual and rip that baby out and start diagnosing. They really arn't that complicated.

Only an 84-85 125M trans will work, 110's are different due to not being Electric Start, some of the gears are the same if I remember correctly but not everything. 86-87 trans is different all together aswell due to being an "upright" engine. You could put a 110 motor in but would lose you electric start.Where in PA are you?? Do a search for here for a manual, and you'll be able to see the inner workings of the trans.

Oh yeah :welcome: to the boards!

Get to wrenching, you have the best mechanics right here to help you through it, if you get stuck.

i live in manheim wich is right outside of lancaster city... thanks for all the help guys , i took the motor out today and i will prob start taking it apart tonight to see what i can find... oh and another thing i forgot to mention, the hi/low switch was always in low, if i tried to put it in high i could do first but it would pop out when i shifted to second.

I had an 84 125m that I bought with tranny problems. The chain flew off while the previous owner was riding it and it cracked the left side case. The chain also bunched up and I'm thinking it stopped it dead, causing the low gear cog to get a bent tooth and messing up 3rd gear in high or low. It was nasty.

find a 1985 honda trx 125 engine, have electric start and reverse then.
if the bike can't shift the gears right , just tap the sproket shaft end with a hammer lightly.
it worked for my dirtbike a number of times.

so the trx 125 engine and transmission are the same as the atc125m?

the trans is a lil diff, but i been told both engines will mount up the same. Don't quote me on it. I got a trx 125 and i think the only different between the bikes, the atc and quad that is just the front end, 1 wheel vs 2 wheels.
