Today i just pulled my 1982 185s motor out, and im wanting to put it in my 87 200x roller. I need all the advice and answers i can get on how to do this, and i figured many of you have done it before. First thing is do i put a 200x front sprocket on my 185s motor, or can i leave it? Second what do i do for the CDI and all the electrical wiring stuff since there 2 diffrent setups?
Any other advice in general will be VERY helpful.

The 185 motors don't bolt into the 86-87 chassis very easy, only the 83-85 chassis are easy.

Do a search for "autox", there's a wealth of info.

with your 87 you will have to redo every motor mount. with a 83-85 it just bolts rite in

ok, what do you mean exactly by "redo" each one?

ok, so if i get an 83-85 frame can i use all my gear off my 87 frame on the 85 frame?

if it is bike specific I would say no but it depends on what you have ? tires/wheels will swap

if you do not use an 83-85, you have alot of fabrication to do.

this is kinda ironic... i just dragged a cobbled up pile of crap in today that consists of an 85 frame, 86 swinger and shock , an 86 front end, and a 200s motor.
you'd be better off trying to part the roller you have and buy an 85 roller or try to build one from parts. their will be an awful lot of fabrication trying to stuff the auto in the 87 or even using the 87 pieces on an 85 frame. all of the pieces you listed up there ^^^^^ will need some sort of fab work.

ok, so if i just stick with the 87 frame, ill just need to redo some of the motor mounts, and like the brake pedal, and electrical?

FoxRider001, I don't really mean to be busting your chops here, but when you asked what your options were originally, I think people explained to you to use the 83-85 200x frame and components. If you are asking all these questions and not listening well to peoples advice, maybe this project isn't for you. The 86 and 87 frames are totally different from the 83-85 200x, so I would expect that none of their components like the swingarm will fit either. The thing is, if you would do some research, you would see this information is readily available either on this site or by checking out a couple of other places. As much as I would really like seeing you complete this project, you are being kind of difficult. If you want to use the later model frame, go ahead, but you have alot of fabbing ahead of you and you will be pretty much on your own. If you want to do it the easy way, find you an 83-85 roller and save yourself and people on here alot of trouble. It can't really be explained any simpler than it already has. What you have won't work without alot of modding. You are asking people how to mod your trike. People won't have any ready answers cause every auto x I've ever seen, people use the 83-85x frame. So you are pretty much on your own if you want to use the later frame. Best of luck with what you decide to do, but please do some searching on here and maybe you can have a little more luck with your answers. But pretty much count on no parts from your later model 200x fitting an earlier model 200x. You can always get on a web site with the factory parts microfiche numbers like service honda and compare parts numbers to see if they have parts that fit from the 83-85 200x as compared to what fits the 86-87 200x.

ya your right, ill talk to some buds that are very excellent fabricators at the machine shop and see what we can do.

You could probably trade the 87 roller for an 83-85 roller plus cash seeing how the 2nd generation is more sought after.

I'd sell that 185 engine (or put it back in the bike and sell it whole) and look for a 200x engine.

Yes, I would tend to go to the 200x engine in the 200x frame myself. I was never really a big fan of the 86-87 200x though. I guess that is easy for me to say since I have a suspension 185s though. I just really want to see FoxRider001 get this project done as quickly and easily as he can and enjoy riding with suspension. I do have my fingers crossed for you, just don't make it any harder on yourself than you need to, you know?

Keep your eyes on this, a 2 second search on Egay netted this. I also see them pop up on Craigslist by me fairly often. I'd keep it with the stock 200x than molest it with a 185 motor.

thanks racerxxx, ill definently watch this motor
Sell the 185s as a running whole bike and use that money to get the 200x up and running with the correct engine.

ya im sure thinking about that dz, its just that im having to take my precious time finding the right motor since i already got lied to and hosed on the last one.
Plus the guy i bought my 87 200x from put a thrashed 85 body on it.

You should delete that post and repost it on the classifieds here. You'll probably get more interest there.

what all is wrong with it and how much you want

well the chain came off, so the case is cracked, needs new cam, rockers, crank re-build, top end-rebuild, lots of stripped bolt holes, broken off bolt heads, needs new piston, and some more. Not sure how much i would want.
