It was hard to kick over when I bought it....so I tried to set the by following the manual.... The cable was old and it broke.... I know I need another one....my question is can I still ride the bike without the cable with the decompression lever on the motor head just laying in the forward position?? Will this cause any damage?? The bike is hard to kick over but it is the same as when the cable was on

None of mine have kickers, all rope, and yes, there are hard to pull. I'd watch that kick back, might break your foot. Someone with a kick will chime in, I'm sure.

You can check these places for the cable and ebay, of course. I'm sure there's more sources.

I replaced mine with a new one from Honda last fall, I think it was about $18. It is a lot easier to kick with a correctly adjusted cable. I mean you are still kicking over a 350 but the cable is well worth it.

yes you can still get these parts new and many more.also it would be very worth it to hook the decompression cable back up. p.s. you can ride without it just wear good shoes or boots,it will kick back

I know mine came without the cable.... I have a scar on the shin to prove it... and the scar came from me not checking to see that my petcock said "off" :)

They'll snap if you aren't at TDC when you set them.

15$ at Service Honda or 25$ at your dealer :D

Dammit!

I didn't even see in the manual where it says how to adjust it. What section is that in? Or are we talking about the owners manual and not the service manual? I only have the service manual. I just set it by feel. Made a HUGE difference but I noticed after some ride time it started getting pretty stiff again. The cable is old and probably stretching.

Just curious. should the lever on the case behind the kickstart be able to freely slide around? I'm thinking of ordering a cable for mine too, but It didn't seem like it was working anyway?

Both levers have a bit of freeplay, maybe only 1/8th or so on the lower and the top you create about 1/4" of play by adjusting it at TDC.

It's easily assembled wrong inside the clutch cover so if it's been apart, make sure thats all set right and in good shape.

Remember too that it only does it's job if you allow the kickstarter to come all the way up before kicking it again. Ya can't kick them like a 250R :D

could you just hook it up to the parking brake???? then pull it in and kick it
