Hey ya'll,
just picked up my first trike yesturday. She's in rough shape but I think some time and swet put into it will get er' runing.
first problem is the pull start went on me yesturday after I got it home, guess I pulled it to hard and it went limp didn;t wind back up. How do I fix this?
Secondly, the engine is leaking oil onto the small sprocket and dripping on the exhaust pipe, so i'm thinking a seal needs to be replaced in it, any idea what the seal would be called?
Third, the carb doesn't have any air filter or intake on it, what is needed there?
Fourth, the chain is off as it had new sprockets put on. I have the chain for it, how do I go about putting it on?
I'll get some pictures soon and post., I think a lot of things are mising on the bike but it was running when I bought it. I dont want it to be perfect just running and reliable.
Thanks for all ya'lls help.

Pullstarts can be tricky and sometimes a huge pain in the arse. Be patient and watch for flying coils!
Sounds like the oil leak could be the countershaft seal. I've never replaced one in a 110 so I'm not sure how much is involved in that, what with the sub-trans and all.
The best thing to do for an air filter would be a stock airbox. You can probly get one off Ebay, or post a wanted ad in the classifieds on here. You could get away with a pod filter, but then you might have to jet it and you might risk sucking water into the carb if it gets wet.
The chain is pretty much self explanatory. You will have to remove the sub trans and while you're in there you can diagnose your countershaft seal issue.

Got some of the stock airbox from an 83?? Want a price and some pics??? Not all but a cheap start?????shens The pullstart needs rewound. I would advise you have it done if you never have taken one apart....... bad things fly out of those recoils...trust me.. Probably mower shop or local mechanic could handle it?? I learned after several near misses of my face and limbs how to do it but let me tell ya' it sometimes is a pain in the arss!!! good luck let me know about the part....got several others for it.. WELCOME!!! on3eatin4:TrikesOwn

Thanks for the help guys. I think I may try to fix the recoil myself with my brothers help, sounds like its gonna be sketchy tho lol.
If you have an airbox off of an 83 I would definitely be interested, maybe some pics and price.
It basically sounds like i need to just start tearing it apart lol. It also seems to be missing a lot of the exhaust, it just kinda ends in the middle of the bike. Im thinking just adding a straight pipe, i'd like to make a breather.
cheers

Tech Tip:
If you are tackling the pull start yourself, use its bolt holes to screw it to your workbench with long drywall screws (inside-up, of course).
This will secure it and allow you to use both hands for the job. Good luck!!!

The way to avoid being attacked by the recoil spring is to cut the cord. That way the recoil spring will retract itself and it will not get out of his groove when you will remove the cord pulley.

first get a manual, then tackle your projects on at a time.if you dont have a manual download one from here.just do a search.all the problems are easy fixes one by one.

Pulled the engine yesturday, cleaned it up and put it back in to discover oil leak. I fixed the recoil just by opening it up and winding it back in. The leak is coming from around the small sprocket as in the piucture, any idea of what seal or gasket it could be?
Any help or tips with anything would be great. The enginge starts but smokes like crazy, I think it is the piston rings.
It came with a spare front end, off of a different machine. It has front shocks so is there a way I can put that on? It also came with a rear rack I need to clean up and put on. I'm going to redo the gas tank as well. Thanks for all ya'lls help. Weez

looks like it takes the square type air box instead of the rectangular air box. It is missing the front motor mount, footpegs, grab bar, looks like its missing the head pipe on the exhaust, does it still have the muffler in the frame? how about a pic of the rear of the trike? There is a gasket that goes around the left side cover. It could be bad. I just recently had my front sprocket replaced on my 110 and It had an oil leak around the same area as yours. I havent run my motor yet, to find out if the oil leak is still there as I havent got that far with the restore/repaint/refurbish whatever you want to call it

you don't happen to be in New Brunswick? i believe i was looking at that bike a week or so ago, did it come with a couple gas tanks off of different bike? glad somebody saved it , if it is the same bike.

I have the engine temporarily suspended in there as i had it removed, so there are no mounts missing, just not attached. The header is removed as well as the foot pegs but I have them all. The exhaust stops somewhere underneath the bike when it's put on, not hooked on to anything other than the engine. I'm not sure what the exhaust usually looks like. Anyone have the part number for the air box?
Is it very hard to do the piston rings over?

Post a WTB in the classfieds here for the airbox and any other parts you need. Someone may have what you need.
Here's a breakdown of the air cleaner.

it sems to me like maybe i'm missing a chain tensioning arm or something? There was just some springs there when i got the trike

it should have a muffler mounted in the frame. the muffler is kinda odd looking, hopefully someone will post a pic of one, as I dont have a digital camera to get a pic of my muffler. the tail pipe should come out of the middle of the rear of the trike, just above the axle/bearing carrier.

If the oil leak is coming form the front sprocket case gasket will that be a big deal to change? The engine seems to smoke a great amount and doesnt idle for very long before dieing out, do you think i need new rings? is a ring job very hard to do? I've done it once a long time ago in shop class at highschool.
also, would i be able to forget bying a stock air box and just put on a aftermarket air filter? i notice they sell them on ebay, just hook it up with no airbox?

as far as the ring job is concerned, I have heard that it is not much to it. you might want to invest in a manual. If you plan on just connecting the filter to the carb without the airbox, you will have to rejet and also avoid water to keep from damaging the engine. It will be about a year before I open up the top end on my 110. It will not get ridden very much anyway.

last night after toying around with putting the chain on to see if i could go for a ride i realized it has a chain tensioner, so i looked at the badge and sure enough it's an 82, not an 84! so the chain tensioner is my big problem right now, it idles well, smokes a fair amount and leaks a bit but if i can get it running reliably i would be very happy. so i gues my question is how to adjust that chain tensioner? where it connects to the bike (thru to the other side and acts as a pivot for the brake) the dumb asses who had it before me welded both ends so i can't tighten them. I'
m looking at jerry rigging a spring system to hold it in place, but would it be better just to replace the chain tensioner? thank all

after looking at the manual, it looks like my bike is missing the tensioner locking arm. So i am in need of a tensioner shaft, and tensioner locking arm. The tensioner itself seems to be in okay condition. on bikeparts.com the tensioner shaft is 100 bucks! won't be oging that route. is there anyway to jerry rig it without buying those parts? Jay

I would post an ad in the classifieds for the parts that you need.
