Got some more Q's for you T3 guys.
1. Did Cobra ever make an exhaust for the Tecate? My silencer has a Cobra decal on it.
2. What do you guys use to protect the rear brake rezzy from your foot when starting?
3. There was a thread on here awhile ago about making your own chain slider out of UMHPE? ( I think that was what it's called.) Do I have that name right? Where can I find this stuff?
4. Where can I find a manual for the 1st gen T3? All of the links that I found on here are broken.
That's it for now. Thanks in advance.

1- Probably, but likely to be close to DG design, if not identical.
2- Smaller rezzy "Z-400" bolt on.......
3- Hyphax
4- Ebay, or talk your dealer into you selling you theirs.:naughty:
5- But in all reality most of your Q's can be answered right here, if a manual can't be located.:beer

Thanks man. I have a KX125/250/500 Clymer manual. How much in it is relevant to the KXT?
EDIT: Relevant engine-wise.

LOL. Yeah that sounded wrong. I have plenty of KX parts laying around. I might try that.
DISCLAIMER: I don't start my 3 wheelers barefoot, and you shouldn't either!

OK back to this hyfax stuff. Does it come in a standardized width? Would I need something like this?

Any shop that sells snowmobiles will have it.....In different widths and thickness. It will all require a bit of work to adapt to you particular swingarm.

EDIT: Relevant engine-wise.If you have a 1st gen T3 and that manual is for 83-85 KX 250's it will work for you pretty much. The stator setup will be different and the gearing might be different but it should still go together and come apart the same way.

Cool. I have two KXT bottom ends and I'm gonna try to make one good one out of them. The original has some crank endplay and the other is fresh, but the shifter shaft is screwed up and some stuff is missing I think.

these motors are so simple that you probably wont even need a manual.. especially if you have 2 of them, you can look at the assembled one if you get lost... alot of people get intimidated by all the pieces, but if you look at the engine as a group of small sub assemblies.. clutch, trans, shift mechanism, ect.. you will find these engines are incredibly simple... ask here if you need a specification or get lost and I doubt you'll ever have any need for a manual...

Yeah you're right. It's less complicated than the air R motor I rebuilt over the winter, but I like having a manual. If I can get one cheap, I'll buy it just to have it. There's really not much I have to do to the motor anyways. Thanks again for your guys' advice, I appreciate it.

I have a Cobra pipe for my first generation Tecate (stuffed away in the attic). I also bought a brake rezzy guard off of Ebay for my Tecate and it works really well ,just type in Tecate and it should come up. The last time that I looked they were still on there. If you would like pictures of these two parts so you can get an Idea, PM me your e-mail and I'll send you a couple.

If you need a manual then I could throw it on CD and send you a copy of the tecate along with any other honda ones you need. I would host it on my server, but its down right now due to mechanical issues! LOL

Does the Cobra pipe use the stock heat shield? I'm thinking that only the silencer is Cobra. As for the rezzy guard, I just did a search on eBay and I didn't see that one. I gonna snatch one up once it's closer to running. Thanks again, all.

No, the Cobra pipe doesn't use the stock heat guard.

cool guys. Thanks.
Alright, some more questions:
1. Any differences comparing the '84 KXT cylinder to the '85 KXT?
2. I have an '85 KXT cylinder head.(at least that's what it is marked as.) Will it work with either year? I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Kawi altered the design in '85, because of seizure issues.
3. I noticed today that my cylinder has been pried on at some point. It looks like I'm gonna have to take off almost a MM to get it flat. Will I have to double up the head gaskets? BTW its been pried at about 5 'o clock, if 12 was the front wheel.
Again, thanks in advance all.

As far as differences between the 84 and 85 cylinders, they have the same part numbers.. so I am assuming they are the same. If you want a better cylinder you want an 84 KX cylinder. Much better ports and more power.

^ I'm hopefully gonna use the KXT cylinder. I think it only has one bore on it.

So it has a fresh sleeve?

So it has a fresh sleeve?
Oops. Duh. It's unsleeved. I measured it at around 70.25, but that was with a crappy caliper. Haven't taken any snap gauges to it yet to get an at least semi accurate measurement.

If it isn't resleeved, then it still has the Nikasil coating and it can't be bored.

The 84 kxt cylinders are in fact different from 85 as delivered from the factory. The 85 Kxt cyls are better due to a much larger exhaust port. It's highly possible that replacement 84 cyls were simply upgraded to the 85 style. Externally and otherwise internally, the two are identical. But the difference is quite dramatic when the two are held side by side, and viewing the exhaust side......

OK. How do I know what I have, or does it really not matter? The cylinder and head are not original to the 3W, and the cylinder and head don't match, I.E. there are no pry marks on the head. There are a couple of markings on the cylinder: there's a "B" stamped on top of the intake, and there's a "9" on the lower left side, near the base, on the right side of the cylinder.

One more question. I've seen a couple of these RMstator flywheels on eBay. Are they the same as the Ricky? Looking at the pics they seem different.
