Alright I have a Scout, looks like a mud bug or a tri-sport, that I'm trying to get done for TF. It uses a go-cart type rear end and I cant find a correct engine for it. You have the mounting plate for the engine in the rear and on the right hand side is the sprocket. I cannot for the life of me find an engine, that when placed so the output shaft faces the right, will turn forward. They all go backwards. How are your's setup? If needed I can get a pic.
My other question is I cant see where a twist throttle was ever used on the machine. One can easily fit but I dont know where to get a throttle cable long enough to reach. Any ideas? I'll get some pics and get back here

i dont have a definete answer but , could it have used a jack shaft? i do have some literature on the mud bug, i'll dig it out and check what that looks like.

The plan is to drop the wheels and rear off the frame, sand blast and paint the frame, change front wheel bearings, and find a motor. The fiberglass seat is currently being repaired as it has some cracks and chips in it

zilla- I was wondering about the jackshaft but I dont see how it can work. Maybe I'm not thinking correctly.
I've had this for about 4 years and finally decided to build it up. Its UGLY :D

Probably had a torque converter set up. I think you can get them from Northern Hydraulics. Like this http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_35770_35770
Then you run a jackshaft to the sprocket on the rear. A jackshaft is just a shaft on bearings with 2 sprockets, one on each end.

I was hoping to simply use a clutch like is utilized on my Chrysler sno-runner. Simply slides on the output shaft, connect the chain, and go.

You still need a jackshaft but it should work fine with a regular clutch.

Nate, i have enough here to build a nice running 5hp briggs thats should push around 9-10 hp. its set up to run methanol but could easily be switched to gas. i'd really like to see it on a trike like this.

I had one of these, not sure which brand it was, and it did have a jackshaft. Now, this won't help with the problem of the engine rotation because mine did not change the direction of rotation from the engine. All it did was reduce the overall speed of the trike and give it the power it needed. It had a centrifugal (SP)? clutch like the one you pictured but without the jackshaft the gearing would've been wayyy too tall. It wouldn't have gone the places it did and it would've been real slow off the line. I think you're going to find you will need a jackshaft.

you can get a 100 inch throttle cable for a gocart, and it will work with a twist throttle. that should be long enough.
looks like it had some sort of jackshaft setup, because the brake band is up on the top, not anywhere near the axle.
