I have an '85 Honda 200m and my gas tank has rusted through. I'm wondering was tanks from other machines will fit mine. I'm assuming the tanks from a 200e or 200es will fit my 200m, but are there any other tanks that will fit? I'm not concerned about the shape, just the mounts. Any help would be nice.

you could go for a plastic tank http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-ATC-185-S-ATC-200-M-E-ES-S-PLASTIC-FUEL-TANK_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116 QQhashZitem390042915999QQitemZ390042915999QQptZMot orsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_500wt_1764

the only other one that will fit would be 1982 -1984 Big Red

I would buy a plastic one, but I don't want to spend that much money. That $89.99 one is $110.00 Canadian. I'll patch mine up and run it until I find a better tank.

I just got a tank from a guy for free. He said it was from 200 Big Red, but after I got home and tried to put it on, I realised that it must be off a 250.

If it is off a 250es and in good shape. You can sell it for about what a plastic cost. The 85-87 tanks in good shape catch good bucks sometimes..
Post a few pics of the tank you got for free.

The tank I got is not in very good shape, it is rusted badly inside, and it has many dents, and I can tip it back and fourth and hear the loose rust sliding around, but it was free. I might get some pics tomorow.

if you want to fix up yours you can start with dilluted acid then clean and coat and jb weld the holes

JB weld is not a good fix... The gas will trash it before long... Post a pic of the BR tank you have... I could stand to have a spare laying around...

I have had JB weld on my 250SX tank for 2 years now with no issues! I also have a bit on my 86 200X - also - no issues what so ever - if applied correctly - should never be an issue.

This is the tank I got for free. When I was taking the pictures I noticed a bad rust out on the tank, but my camera died before I could take a picture of the hole. I probaly could have pushed my finger through the tank by the hole.
What is this tank off of? I'm thinking a 250es or 250sx.

200S/185S tanks will fit as well, they just hold less fuel.

Including the current exchange rate and shipping, that is going to cost me $70-$80 CDN, a bit more than I want to pay.

Dude, that tank is not that badly rusted, I have seen much worse. Hell, I have much worse right now on my 110. Any decent body and fender guy would be able to fix it, weld the holes, smooth it out and paint it to look like new. I can certaintly understand the $ issue tho, you need to make the plastic will fade a bit but last forever, to where the metal is nicer IMO
