Well we picked up a 1985 KLT250 that was setting for a while. We pulled the carb and cleaned it real good and put in fresh gas. It runs good for about a minute until it starts warming up then it wont rev, the warmer it gets the less it will rev. So we pulled the carb and went through it agian, it was spotless. Changed plug and it still the same. If it cools down it runs good, as soon as it gets heat it wont rev at all but will idle great. I put on a timing light to check the spark while it was cutting out and sure 'nuff it misses real bad when its cutting out. So its definatly ignition. I pulled the engine side cover off and found out that the charging coil (stator) is destroyed and all the magnetic material is everywhere. Im thinking that the magnetic material is on the pulse coil pick up causing it to screw up. I dont want to put it all back together with all this magnetic material in there. How do I remove the flywheel rotor?
Any recommendations on getting all this material out?
I can not find much info on this bike.
Does the rotor or the stator have the magnets attached to it?
Where can I get a wiring diagram?

Any help is appreciated

THANKS!

I was able to find a service and shop manual for my KLT200 on ebay, you might check there for more info. Seems that common KLT knowledge is rare.

Do you think the wiring on the 84-85 Tecate is the same? This model doesnt have points.

My Tecate has the magnets attached to the flywheel. As far as if they're interchangeable, I doubt it. At this point I'd replace both the stator and the flywheel.

Isn't the Tecate a 2 stroke?

I don't know... there isn't much out there for the 200 either.

Check a few things first. Like the main ground wire might be bad. Main ignition coil could be about toast too. Runs good when cold you say? Hows the floats?

Both the 200KLT and 250KLT have the same wiring. And the KXT wiring is not the same as the KLT's.

but that wiring is for points, my klt250 has electronic ignition.
