I have polished some parts on my 84 tecate and some on my kz 650.I decided to try to polish the rear wheels on the tecate and sandpaper didn't even seem to effect them.Is there some sort of coating on the rims and if so, how do strip that stuff off?Appreciate any info.

I'd be afraid to use oven cleaner on aluminum. after reading this...

but thats the point of it, to eat off the anodizing or whatever coating he has.

Use some aircraft paint stripper. they have a clear coat on them you need to take off. Once that is off, polish away.... Using easy off on bare aluminum is fine if you were trying to etch it, but on polished raw aluminum, just plain foolish.

I used sandpaper on my 85 t-3 rims.
