I found a really nice '86 Honda ATC 250R on Craigslist in San Diego 2 weeks ago. I already have one as a garage queen so I figured I'll get this and now I can finally go riding again  Well, after a little bit of spit and polish I think I now have 2 garage queens. What am I going to do?? The one thing that sticks out as wrong on it is the aftermarket fork boots. Im going to do something about that real soon! I think im just gonna wait till the 2010 hondas come out and get a new TRX450R. And I'll take that to Glamis. I've got thousands of miles under my belt on 2 previous 250R's I had in the late 80's and early to mid nineties so it's no big deal. I mostly work on and build early Ford V-8 Hot rods but I seem to keep getting sucked back into this 3Wheeling thing. To the point where I don't have any more room in my garage to work. Notice the picture of the "3Wheeling" sticker. I had that on the front fender of my 200X in 1984 until I sold it in 1988. I peeled it off before I sold it. shens I think I had to mow some lawns to get my mom to write a check to 3Wheeling magazine for those stickers. Like I said, it's the one in the front with the wrong fork boots. I started to get a little crazy with the picture taking so here are some pics of my other bikes and stuff just for your viewing pleasure :beer

First off i have to say, those are all great looking trikes. But i can't believe the price differences there are in different parts of the country. You are excited because you bought that for only $2260 but around here a 250R would HAVE to look like that to bring in 2200-2500 bucks. Good condition 250r's around here usually sell for about $1200-1600. I guess i'm lucky because of that, but too bad i'm too broke to take advantage. lol

^ IMO, THAT 250R is BEYOND good condition, more like "next to mint" and in a better time it would command 4-5K easily.

I sold mine for 2300$ and it wasn't NEAR that nice and that was 5 years ago....

I sold mine for 2300$ and it wasn't NEAR that nice and that was 5 years ago....Yeah but that's my point. You live on the east coast. On the east ans west coast they sell for a lot more. Here in the mid west they are much cheaper. I'm not yanking your chain, I'm sure their are guys from this area who will back me on this. Now, you're right, that thing is minty mint. But still in that condition, I would bet $50 that i could find one somewhere around here in mint shape for $2500.

But you east/west coasters are the rich guys, that's why.

Just to prove that i'm not blowing you guys any smoke, i said you can get R's in good condition for $1200-$1600 or so so here is some listings. I might not be able to find a minty mint one for $2200 right now but i promise they do show up from time to time,.

Now, I'm not trying to discredit 250R's. I'm just saying i am amazed at the price differences they bring depending on where you live.

I'll try to scan in some pics of the local auto trader to show you guys a bunch more for good prices. They're cheap around here compared to the coasts.

At least you guys CAN find em around there. I had to SCRATCH build mine with parts off of e-bay. NO market for 'em up here in swamp land, but if you're looking for a Big Red, the north is where it's at...:D

I think your comparing apple to oranges here, those bikes you linked are $1000 rags, missing half the oem parts and by the looks of them have a ton of hours already. To bring either of them to the way his R sits now would cost more than what he picked that R up for. I think he got a great deal on it considering what it would cost to build one up. Theres a couple up here in MI in similar condition but still not as nice and they want around $2200 for them as well.

Nice collection, its nice to see more and more of these bike popping up in this condition.

#1 the ones i listed are FAR from rags. They are good condition trikes. They are also only 2 very quick examples of what i found in a 2 minute search. Only 2 of many.

#2 You prove my point. You just said there are a couple up there that are in close condition asking $2200. ASKING $2200. Are they sold? Just like I said, if you want to get $2200 to $2500 out of an 86 R it BETTER be mint or it won't sell here. That guy is ecstatic because he was able to find it for such a good price. Again, making my point.

#3 AGAIN, this has nothing to do with dissing 250R's. I just can't believe the difference in prices in different regions. I just find it strange because if you go to buy a car, it is usually worth roughly the same, some slight variation, where ever you are. But trikes selling in the middle of the country versus what they sell for on the costs is like night and day. that's my only point.

Aaaah...come on Hoosier Daddy, those bikes you linked from craigslist are a couple of wrecks!! One of them has no lights and brakes with half a rear fender and the other one says you have to touch 2 wires to turn it off. Go to San Diego craigslist and you can find a couple of 250R's in the price range you mentioned that are in better condition. San Diego and southern california is loaded with dirt sports bikes and trikes in all kinds of condition and prices. :beer CHEERS

Heres one of the bikes I was talking about.

http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/rvs/1127719596.html

$1900 and in decent restorable condition but its going to take quite a bit more than $400 to bring this one back up to mint showroom like.

The other is an 85 thats already been restored for $2500, still waiting on pics of this one.

Before the great depression these bikes like Beersides were bringing 5 to 6 grand in the condition his is in all over the US, they usually had to be in stock form but by the looks of Beerside's, he could probably do that in an afternoon.

Heres one in CA for $1400

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/mcy/1098500591.html

Not mint but another restorable bike and cheaper than the 85 above. I don't think the prices are that far off but I do think you find cleaner bikes in the west and with shipping its not that expensive to shop out of state to find a cleaner bike.

Hey Beerside, You play in the sand? I am done for this season, but maybe next season, if you go to Glamis, I will try to remember to PM you, maybe we could hook up and break those bad boys in http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/characters/character0029.gif

I am getting kind of tired being the only trike in site :beer

Anyway, AWsome trikes bro, simply awsome! Decent price too, I agree it was a little on the high side, but dude, That bike is about as close to mint as I think you can get. Great Score! http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/cool/cool0012.gif

Anybody that thinks trikes are cheaper in the midwest than they are in the southwest is uninformed. You can find 250Rs that run the whole gamut here from riders for a few hundred bucks, rollers damn near free, crazy people selling rags for $2500 (that never sell, lol) and damn nice extremely low hour trikes like beerside found. That's where the dreamers get their pricing. They see one nice one sell for 2500 and they think their piece of crap is worth that much. Then you just watch the price keep getting lower and lower for a few weeks. There's an R on AZ on CL right now that started out at $2500 well over a year ago. It's $1200 now and it's actually damn nice. I'd buy it for that if I had the money.

Actually I just looked for it and I think it finally sold. Now there's a piece of crap for $1200 that obviously saw the other one. Actually even this ugly thing I'm looking at could be very nice with a minimal amount of work. I bet it could be bought for 800 or less though.
