I picked up a basically free YTM225 tonight. Turns out the engine is locked up...not sure where the lockup is but I can't turn the flywheel. It's also missing all the engine mounting bolts, on/off switch (on the handlebar), choke lever on the front panel, and the starter motor.

My first order of business is to get the engine off. Is there a particular order of events here? The Yamaha manual just says to pull it from the right side. Is there a connection in the shaft that I have to get loose? Once I get it loose where should I look first to "thaw" it out?

Also, is there a way I can seal the hole where the starter motor went if I can't find another one?

The chassis number is 29U 086707....what model does that correspond to?

Thanks, and any leads on these parts is appreciated.

Joe

I want to expose the timing chain, but I can't get those screws out....any ideas how to get them to budge?

Thanks for the encouragement in the PM (won't let me post new ones). I was rapidly getting depressed about it when I saw how much a crankshaft costs for this thing ($600!!!). If I were to rebuild the motor like that I might as well buy a NEW one.

Some guy on Ebay wants $150 for a used carburetor...mine looks OK, but the choke is shot.

I actually found a guy on Craigslist in Pittsburgh with a good motor he's selling. I may work with that, if only for parts.

How do I know if it has reverse?
