Ok so some lady is selling this and she is clueless as to what it actually is, ive called her and she says that it has a "brand new 250 engine" she could be wrong about the size, wondering if anyone could give me a positive ID for this bike, if its a 200x im gonna buy it.

hmm, well darn probably not gonna get it. Looked on ebay and the parts are too few and far between for the first gen R

Its an 81 or 82 250r. Id pick it up for that price, you can still get tons of parts for them. Looks to be pretty complete except for that front axle, which is easy to come up with.
-Nick :TrikesOwn
I got 2 200x front ends that could go on that, plastic is still available so....what isnt hard to come by? for that price its worth it especially if the motor runs.

Ill give her a call again and take a look at it today. Main reason to buy another one is for my buddy, only reason I wanted a 200x is because I have a spare 200x parts bike that I was gonna help him replace parts if needed. So sorry, if I get this its not gonna get parted out :(

well as syko halfway suggested im gonna throw my extra 200x front end on her and grab a 86 R front fender and let my buddy drive it, who knows i may like it alot and let him drive my 200x, well see haha.
Oh awsome story, i was at the girls house with $170 in hand, i asked her how much was it again and when she said 170 her boyfriend laughed and said that it isnt worth that much and would only take $150... Score right? muahahaha

OK so im gonna tear into this badboy sometime this weekend. Any suggestions on what mix rate goes well with this model/engine? 32:1, 50:1, 20:1? (dont have alot of experience with the 2-strokers)
Nick_R_23
04-23-2009, 11:02 PM
I usually run anywhere from 25:1 to 32:1, thats always a safe mix.
-Nick :TrikesOwn
I run 40:1 in my 300R with Amsoil Interceptor oil.
AutoXer
04-24-2009, 10:37 AM
50:1 synthetic 32:1 conventional is what i allways ran 40:1 should be safe Use good 2-stroke mix oil. No the cheap walmart outboard oil isn't good enough

04-24-2009, 02:09 PM
ok so anywhere from 25;1 to 40;1 with the avg of 32:1, ill stick with 32:1. Is Amsoil Interceptor the best bet for me or is the honda stuff better?

That seat looks like it's off a 1970's CB360 or something haha

I think 40:1 is your best bet and yes, use Amsoil Interceptor. I've tried about 5 different brands (isn't much I know) and outta those 5 Interceptor is the best! Burns clean and the trike feels stronger.

Thanks for the input saul, its great to get info from experienced riders such as yourself.
Yea aaron that seat is off of one of the ladies dirtbikes, not sure what year or model on that badboy haha.
Since there is no tag on the downtube as to what year it was, I ran the VIN # tb0600bc002522 decodes into 1981 250R. Im actually pretty excited to work mess around with it this weekend. :Bounce

'81 250R with an '82 motor. BTW isn't that the axle in that second pic? (behind the pipe)
Oh yeah parts are easy to come by if you're patient. The hardest thing to find for your bike will be the correct seat, rather one that's doesn't have a rotted pan.

Question, will the 200x rear shock swap out with the 250r? The one I got wont hold any pressure.
Hats off for attempting to rescue the fooler.
Are those 10 inch razrs?

Turn the fender around goober and it won't look so bad thats why its almost hitting the exhaust then try the headlight:postwhore

The fender is on the correct way, it just looks silly because its the 200x fender, it will be replaced when i get a 2nd gen 250r front fender. The headlight looks silly because its using the 200x mount.
Not sure if they are 10 inch razrs ill check in the morning.
Anyone know anything about the shock?

I would love to go riding any weekend, buuuut I dont have a way to transport my bike  I really need a truck of my own haha. Every time I've gone out I've been stacked three deep in my buds truck, borrowed my old roomates truck to grab the 250r. So I'm kinda able to go riding at their convenience haha.
Right now I have a wrangler with no tow hitch and I can ALMOST fit my 200x in the back with the top off... I need to trade it in for a Tacoma or something...
Sorry no BR wheel either :p

wow, I like the R a lot, I think with that setup this thing will be bad arse on the trails. has anyone ever tried putting 85-86 250r forks on a fooler? I mean I have seen water cooler swinger and forks on a 200x, why not the fork on the air fooler?
J.J did you not read the whole thread? Also the the main page of trikesylvania there is a new thread button that works great, also there is a search button. your bike 20 something years old so there is bound to be somebody that has had your problem on this website.

Haha well it was kinda what was available to me, I already had a 200x parts bike i picked up for $100. Thats why I would like to know if the rear shock is swapable with the 200x.
Saul: those RAZRs are 20x11.00-10
Also can anyone tell me if this is the factory carb? I have a feeling its not.

Well, the 200X front end wouldn't be an upgrade on an 83-84 250R, as they are essentially the same, other than the headlight and maybe the fender. The '85 front end I think would work on 1st gen Rs, but it would require the usual steering stop mod, and I dunno how much you'd have to hike up the forks in the trees to get it to ride right, as the 1st gen front travel is 7" and 3rd gen is 10," or something like that.

I don't think they are a direct fit.
The stock carb was a 27MM PE - that just might be stock. Have you measured it?

haha I dont think you want these tires, they are all dry rotted and theres a big flat spot on the RHS one, I'll take a pic to show what I mean before work tomarrow.
But anyways, will the 200x wiring harness work for the 250r? or does it change drasticly from 2-stroke to 4-stroke?
fab a wiring harness. it is very easy. Pull the schematic off of a manual.

You could easily make one or grab one off ebay (usually cheap harness on there) The CDI and coil was all there right?

Yep, both CDI box and coil were there. Donno if they are in working condition but well see. After I get the harness (either make or buy) and that carb i listed from CL ill see if she fires up :)
