I had a machine shop remove the old front wheel bearings and I'm not sure which direction to install the bearings. One side of the bearing is covered and the other side is open. Does the open side face the center of the axle and the closed side face the black dust cover? Do I need to pack grease anywhere besides the open side of the bearing? Thanks for any help

Where'd ya get the bearings, I just did my 250SX(same bearings) and If I remember correctly mine were sealed on both sides, with a lip seal on the outside to seal the axle. (all balls kit 25-1317)
:welcome: to the boards!

I still have the originals, haven't ordered new ones yet. I assumed new ones would look/install the same as old, but sounds like if both sides are sealed they should be better. I was going to order a set from Dennis Kirk. Any recommendations on where to order them?

Your old bearings should have had seals on both sides too... I have used the moose bearings from Kirk on my 350X and they were just fine... The new bearings are sealed, so just install them...

Here's pics of the old. After I cleaned it up it does look like both sides are sealed, I thought I could see the ball bearings, but it was just the seal molded around the ball bearings.

Installed the new bearings, fit perfect, but they sent the wrong size dust covers(very small about 3/4 diameter of the old) so I reinstalled the old dust covers and packed them with wheel bearing grease.
