Throttle cable

The 86 200X I bought has a motorcycle throttle on it. All the pictures I see they have thumb throttles. I would much rather have the thumb throttle. My question is will an 87 125M-thumb throttle work as long as I change the workings on the end of the 200x throttle cable to the 125M throttle cable.

It should work fine. I know these all of these styles will work: 86-87 200x, 250es, 250r, 250sx, and 350x. The 86-87 125m I think are the same with the exception of the throttle block screw.
